The Zimbabwean armed forces aren’t generally viewed as the friendliest bunch of people. They are known as tough people that stop for no one and tolerate no nonsense. This was not the case for Pride Ngonie as he got to experience their kindhearted side.
Most (if not all) drivers fear being stranded on the highway. It’s an open place where anything can happen. It might also be hours before another car passes by. So the last vehicle one would expect to stop and offer assistance is one driven by Zimbabwean soldiers.
Soldiers land a helping hand

A man named Pride Ngonie (@skies_tj) posted an ordeal he had with the armed forces. His car broke down between Chivhu and Mvuma on the way to Masvingo for his son’s birthday. Much to his surprise an army truck stopped by his car and the officials jumped out to assist him. Ngonie shared with on the Twitter platform and expressed that people often view them in a negative light but the armed forces are human and are able to do good.

The reactions to the tweet were quite diverse. Some people praised the gesture whilst other took the opportunity to point out his vehicle model as a major determining factor.

Why are we alarmed?
I don’t think the gesture should be a common occurrence. Surely the armed forces cannot stop for everyone. But I think we shouldn’t be shocked. The national army is made up humans that feel emotions like every other person. We can’t expect them to be too casual and socialize with civilians but in situations like these it’s good that they can be reliable in a time of need.
