The Covid 19 pandemic has caused so much devastation all over. Many have lost loved ones while others are currently fighting the virus. Fortunately, many have also managed to recover.
Sadly, on Wednesday 8 September, at least 10 covid -19 patients who were being nursed back to health died. This followed after a fire broke out and burnt down the Tetov hospital covid-19 unit that had been built for North Macedonia’s coronavirus patients.
An explosion is said to have caused the fire. The fire was extinguished but lives were still lost. The country’s Health Minister Venko Filipche shared the ordeal on his twitter and stated that it is possible that more patients could have died in the fire.
The COVID-19 unit was built last year at the hospital to look after coronavirus patients in the town of about 50,000 people. This is because the Macedonian health facilities could not fully accommodate increasing coronavirus patients as the facilities are said to be run down.
The Tetovo deputy fire chief Saso Trajcevski told local television that “The fire was huge because the hospital is modular, there was plastic, we took out victims while we put out the flames.”
Several injured people were taken to hospitals in Skopje, the capital city.
