Full Harare City Statement Below;
Harare City will in the next two weeks introduce scheduled water rationing across the city to ensure that all consumers access water.
On Friday there will be a complete shutdown of the Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant to allow engineers to adjust the water abstraction periscopes on the lake. Water levels have gone down by three metres while the depth of the lake has reduced by about eight metres due to siltation.
During a tour of intake towers on Lake Chivero today town clerk Eng Hosiah Chisango announced the water demand management system to councillors from the environment management committee and the press.
The water in the lake has drastically gone down because of the drought. The raw water has also deteriorated in terms of quality because of heavy pollution.
