Zimbabwe has launched its first private television channel called 3Ktv.
3Ktv is the first to launch out of six channels that were issued licenses two years ago.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Nick Mangwana has announced that Zimbabwe is launching its first private television channel.
“Today is a big day in the Zimbabwe Media Space, specifically broadcasting. Zimbabwe’s first private television channel is being launched today.
This coming on the heels of the coming on air of community radio stations is vindication of ED’s democratic sincerity,” said Mangwana.
The launch event was graced by government officials as well as select individuals from business, showbiz and legal sectors. Stand up comedian Carl Joshua Ncube performed as well as multi-award-winning musician Jah Prayzah.
The independent television station 3Ktv, goes live at 6 am on the 28th of February 2022. The free-to-air, family-viewing oriented station will also be available on MultiChoice’s DStv platform — on Channel 293 — to all bouquets offered by Africa’s leading entertainment company, from Premium through to Lite. It will be broadcasting 24 hours, seven days a week from its brand new studios in Harare.
Based on the information on the channel’s Facebook page, it seems one has to have DStv to access the channel. This leaves Zimbabweans without a DStv decoder at a disadvantage.
