History will be made today on the cricket field at the Harare Sports Club. The first black African umpire will be standing in a Test Match and he is Zimbabwean.
Its almost a full week since Zimbabwe broke history in the T20I match against Pakistan. This morning as Zimbabwe takes on Pakistan a Zimbabwe cricket a second time, history’s course has been altered once again. Umpire Langton Rusere will be standing in as the umpire of the match. He has certainly come a long way before this great ground breaking achievement. He umpired for his first international match on the 24th of October 2015 which was between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan.
Fast forward to 2018 January, Rusere was one of the seventeen on-field umpires for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup which was held in New Zealand.
So you might be wondering what makes today’s match so special in comparison to the previous matches he has umpired. Well, today’s match is a part of the test series. Test Series cricket is a little different to the usual as it has the longest match duration. It is also considered the games highest standard.
Congratulations Langton Rusere for umpiring such a prestigious match and changing histories course.
