A new Zimbabwean film, Tozeza Baba, which follows the story of the abuse of a mother and her child by an epileptic husband, is expected to air in July. This film, produced by local filmmaker Blessing Dirwayi serves to encourage the development of a peaceable society.
Blessing Goko who scripted the film, pointed out that the film addressed pertinent socio-economic issues that are yet to be addressed fully in our society.
The increase in physical abuse reports over the years and especially during the Covid-19 induced Lockdown periods has been shocking. As a result the producers of the film feel that it will play an important role in addressing this issue.
On the other hand, the challenges faced by the epileptic in Zimbabwe are barely addressed, hence this film will also highlight these pressing societal issues.
The film also addresses the abuse of the girl child.

In an interview with the media, Dirwayi shared the following sentiments with regards to the upcoming film:
“We will work hard to ensure that we come up with a production that not only captivates, but is also educative. We hope that this will help to reduce cases of abuse against women and foster good relations among family members,”
Know that feeling of working hard to make your dreams a reality then faces hurdles in life that derail you from that path?
This film follows a similar storyline.
In the film, which is set in 2009, a bright Mufaro has innovative ideas that will put his family in a better place. He works hard to buy a phone with internet access so he can start chasing his dreams. He also markets in father’s(Joseph) products online using this phone.
A major drawback occurs. Joseph develops a seizure disorder and cannot continue fending for his family. His wife becomes the sole-breadwinner in a country where the cost of living is becoming increasingly expensive.
Joseph suddenly feels inferior to his wife(Muchaala) and becomes an increasingly abusive husband.
Joseph Ngorima is played by Mapfumo Katsaya, Muchaala (Tisha Chigada) and Mufaro (Takudzwa Karumbwana).
Look out for the film’s trailer which is expected to be released a month before its premiere.
