We don’t hear of students stealing their lecturer’s car often. However, a Mutare Polytechnic student,Brighton Zima(18) made the headlines when he stole Charity Mambondiani’s (37) car.
This incident started unfolding when the lecturer, Mambondiani is said to have arrived at the college and parked her vehicle as per usual in the parking bay. She left all doors locked and windows closed and proceeded to report for duty. At 3.00pm as she knocked off work she went to the car park to find that her car wasn’t where she had left it or in any of the surrounding areas.
A report was made to Mutare Central police who were later tipped of about a stolen car Zima was in possession of. They acted immediately and found Zima driving Mambondiani’s car in Natview Park. Asked on the situation, Zima revealed that he managed to get access to the car using a duplicate key he had picked up at Meikles Park.
He appeared before Mutare Magistrate, Langton Mukwengi, on Wednesday facing charges of motor vehicle theft.
Zima is currently in custody awaiting a bail ruling.
