President Mnangagwa took to Facebook to encourage Zimbabweans by sharing the record-breaking expected 2021 maize harvests.
He shared the following remarks:
“In 2019/2020, Zimbabwe had a maize harvest of 908 thousand tonnes.
This year the maize harvest is predicted to triple to 2.8 million tonnes – a record harvest post-land reform.
Zimbabweans, don’t let the doubters dampen your spirit. Our country is on the path to prosperity!“
The general sentiment expressed by Zimbabweans on this projection revealed their thankfulness for the rains while some even went further to credit the massive donations of farming inputs.
However, another portion of citizens have begrudgingly pointed out that they do not expect to benefit from this bumper harvest. It was pointed out that it is still very difficult for them to gain access to land for agricultural use or even residential stands in spite of their diligent search.
In addition to the above sentiments, some have expressed their fears that based on the government’s supposed track record, only a few are likely to benefit from this.
Contrarily, many small scale subsistence farmers are expecting to enjoy the fruits of their labour.
