Imagine stealing a railway track. Seems like someone implausible but these are things that are happening.
This time around a new robbery of railway tracks has taken place in South Africa this Monday. The culprits in this case include three Zimbabweans. Their names are Maxwell Muchenje, 39, Maxwell Dube, 32, and Witness Mbabo, 27. They were arrested with 13 other South Africans for stealing railways. In addition to the railway track, they were also accused of stealing transformers in Mpumalanga.
A Hawks spokesperson for Mpumalanga was tipped off on the matter. They arrived at Mashcor Scrap dealership and found four trucks dealership still loaded with railway tracks. They also established that the railway tracks had been stolen from a decommissioned line, while the transformers and palisade were stolen from the working substation. All in all, 16 suspects were arrested for theft and damaging of infrastructure.
Muchenje, Dube and Mbabo were remanded in custody until 7 September for formal bail application.
This is not the first time Zimbabweans in foreign lands have been accused of carrying out criminal activities. Those with a criminal record in the UK are slowly being deported.
