The journalism path was never an easy one for Ncube. During the Mugabe regime he had his passport taken away as restrictive press laws began to be applied in 2005. The regime later attempted to strip him of his citizenship. This was unsuccessfully.

As if that wasn’t enough, he went on to be blacklisted along with other critics of Mugabe and the Zimbabwean government by The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

However, these struggles did not hinder him from soaring within his field. He went on to be listed as one of the Top 100 most influential Africans by New African magazine in 2014.
