Given the value placed on cryptocurrency by the world, it comes as a disappointment to some that the country hasn’t embraced the use of cryptocurrencies. As a result, it brings a ray of hope when some Zimbabwean companies begin to accept Crypto as payment.

A Zimbabwean music production company, Mutscon Music,  has recently announced that they will be accepting the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and etherium as payment for their services. Commenting on why this decision was made, a company executive stated that it would make their services more affordable to Zimbabweans. In addition, it enables Zimbabwean artists including those in the diaspora to pay directly for the services.

The executive continued to state that adding Cryptocurrency as a means of payment seemed the logical thing to do. This is because due to the ongoing pandemic, students are learning predominantly online. Therefore, they already use various online payment methods to pay for studies so adding Bitcoin and Etherium is said to give them more options and make it easier for them.

Zimbabwe does not currently have cryptocurrency on and off ramps however the company plans to make use of certain service providers that accept these currencies. They also plan to utilise them to pay subscriptions on international platforms.

Mutscon Music is hopeful that Zimbabwe will soon join other Cryptocurrency embracing countries as we already have e-wallets that function similarly to crypto systems.
