At a ZEC training workshop in Chinhoyi,  ZEC chairperson, Mr Emmanuel Magade, announced that the commission is committed to holding by-elections. This news was accepted with wide grins across Zimbabweans faces as they had lost hope over the occurrence of by-elections. The elections had been cancelled as a result of the Covid situation.

The board stated that there were 117 pending by elections. Everything is in place for the elections to be held however there is only one draw back. The ministry of Health and Child Care is yet to give ZEC the go ahead to hold these elections.

In sight of this, Magade stated:

“As soon as it becomes practically possible, and as soon as it becomes safe, we will hold the by-elections. We have nothing to hide as ZEC”

Following the conference where Magade announced that ZEC was ready to hold by-elections, ZEC shared the following on their twitter page:

The Commission reiterated that the delays in holding these elections were not deliberate. As a result of Covid 19 regulations they were forced to push back the elections.

In preparation for the 2023 elections, ZEC has begun engaging stakeholders to inform them about the commission’s programmes and activities.

Further details on the by elections will be made available after the Ministry of Health has issued a go ahead to ZEC.

In regards to upcoming elections, Zanu PF pointed out that Chamisa’s party is running out of oxygen.
