]]>A certain, Tinaye Lydia Muzenyi took to her social media to lament over what she has to go through in the 21st century. Upon arriving at the Central Vehicle Registry (CRV) offices she was refused entry because her shoulders were out. Not only that, but this happened to be the first time that she had never been notified of this directive.
She shared the following:
So nhasi ndarambidzwa kupinda muCVR because of the top I’m wearing, apparently my shoulders are out and that’s not allowed. Like WTF??!! Which century are we living in?
And to make matters worse it’s not written anywhere, not even on the notice board so how am I supposed to guess that there’s a dress code?! That time when all I want to do is a collection so I won’t even be in the building for more than 5 mins.. Argh this teapot nation
Dress Code At Government Premises
In 2017, after noting a deterioration in dress standards the government decided to set some new rules pertaining to the dress code of government workers. As reported by Nehanda Radio at the time, female workers were barred from wearing tight trousers, sleeveless tops and dresses as well as miniskirts.
A circular by the human resource department of the Public Service Ministry dated March 15 2017 stated the following
“The Public Service Commission has noted with concern the deteriorating standard of dress by members of the public service and has directed that the following standards of dress be maintained by members during the course of their duties in order to uphold dignity and formality expected of them”
Unbeknown to many, these guidelines are also being to applied to members of the public visiting government premises. Whether the dress code is intended to apply to members of the public is unclear, but its safe to say, on the ground it is.
No wonder Tinaye Lydia Muzenyi was refused entry as she was wearing this:
These incidences might have been what sparked the rumoured miniskirt and trousers ban that was going around earlier this year.
