The reasoning behind people’s dislike for DNA testing is that ever since the beginning of time, our forefathers faced similar situations. However, for the sake of building strong societies with intact families they are said to have stayed with their wives even amidst doubts.

Other’s say that women have had to stay strong and hold the family together even despite a husband’s unfaithfulness therefore DNA gives men the unfair platform to not put in the same effort.

Such was the case when a Mufakose man who had been married to his wife for 13 years discovered that his second child wasn’t his. He was alerted of the affair by the wife of the man she had had the affair with during lockdown. Upon confrontation, the wife confessed and the cheated man took the matter to the police.

Because of rumours spreading that one of his children was fathered by the man she had had an affair with, the matter was taken to the Global DNA Zimbabwe. The man broke their 13 year old marriage on camera.

In various DNA  shows, not many have broken of their marriage in this way on camera, but at times it was hinted. A similar family shaking situation took place but it presented an embarrassing situation. The wife blatantly denied ever in her life having relations with ex-boyfriend who turned out to be the father of her child.

Given scenarios like this, would you agree that DNA tests should be mandatory as many Zimbabwean men suggested?

The woman in the video denied having had any relations with the ex-boyfriend and affirmed that the father of her child was indeed her husband. DNA tests were carried out and the results were pretty interesting. Her husband was said to have a 0% chance of being the child’s father. Unfortunately, the woman had celebrated too soon.

In the defence of those who are absolutely refusing to get these tests, it can be argued that whatever the results the relationship might be strained. For starters, others suggested that asking for a DNA test would indicate that there is a lack of  trust. No trust, no strong relationship.

On the other hand, there is an increase in scandals in which a man takes care of a child only to find out that he isn’t the real father. As a result men only deem DNA tests as a protective measure which will help them start the relationship on a solid and clean foundation.

The scandal that sparked this controversial conversation was the Hastings and Plaxedes roora squad scandal we covered in an earlier article you can find here. It was one of the members of the roora squad that revealed an issue that could possibly completely break the relationship and resultantly is causing men to want DNA tests done. But honestly, could you blame them? If the statistics repeatedly show that there is a lack of honest conversation in seemingly solid relationships its only natural to expect that this defensive measure is sought.

On the other hand it is sad that genuinely innocent women might be caught up in this storm and end up feeling mistrusted by their partners. However, my argument is  that there is no need for worry on either side if the relationship is founded on honest conversations from the get go.

Another stumbling block in the issue of DNA to those who might actually need to have them done is that they are pricey. That’s evidently why comments such as the below were made:
