]]> In the 1980 summer Olympics, Zimbabwe’s women hockey team did us proud as they scooped the gold medal in Moscow. The nation was so proud that the then Prime Minister’s wife Sally Mugabe, promised each player an ox (although they ended up getting packets of meat). That was Zimbabwe’s first ever Olympics Medal win. Could we be about to experience yet another similar landmark victory?

Hockey Team Makes The Semifinals

Zimbabwe’s female hockey team has been doing wonders in the ongoing 2022 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON). They have managed to make it to the semifinals for the first time since 1998!

Although they lost the opening pool match against South Africa, the girls managed to beat Uganda 5 – 0 and finally draw 1 -1 with Namibia to qualify them into the semifinals.

Minister Kirsty Coventry recently came under fire for her selection of an “all white” team. It would have been embarrassing if the team had not been doing so well.

Semi final opponents are yet to be decided.
