]]>While there seems to be an acceptable amount that doesn’t seem to take into consideration the man’s earning capabilities. To others the issue of lobola payment shouldn’t even be considered in modern day society as there is said to be less fidelity in relationships.
Non payment of lobola is said to help avoid issues such as the one that recently took place in Manicaland. A bitter Mutasa man, Knowledge Manhanga, reportedly burnt his mother’s hut and proceeded to torch his in-laws’ hut after he was dumped by his wife.
These drastic measures were taken after Manhanga is said to have gotten into a heated argument with his father in law over lobola refund. He threatened his in laws saying that if lobola was not funded he would burn down a hut in their homestead. True to his word, he did so. He had previously burnt down his own mother’s house saying that she had connived with his wife and told her to leave him.
He appeared before Mutare magistrate Rumbidzai Kabasa and he was convicted on his own plea of guilty.

]]>As much as some people disagree with the payment of lobola, most of them agree that if you decide to pay the bride price, it must at least be a respectable amount. What is a respectable amount? Well, that’s a good question but whatever the answer is, apparently US$165 is not it.

]]>Well, let’s start at the beginning. Just this week a lobola squad went viral after one of the members revealed dark life-changing secret. The story has instigated two important issues. The first is the idea of making DNA tests mandatory and the second is the cancellation of the lobola tradition.
So, what is the point of lobola payment after all? Well, culturally a man pays lobola to the parents of his wife as a token of his appreciation for such a beautiful wife. However, others argue that only virgin wives are to get lobola paid to make the deal fair and less risky. Others have suggested that either way it is too risky given the rise in issues similar to the lobola squad scandal so therefore lobola should be cancelled completely.
Some have taken it a step further and equated the payment of lobola to money laundering as they do not see the value of paying money for a person. However, regardless of what the argument against lobola might be, there is the element of tradition. If the custom is eradicated, what is left of our culture pertaining to marriages? Will we then lose ourselves completely to the west’s ‘white wedding’ traditions?

]]>So the love story began with a beautiful couple and their child. Here’s a picture of the absolutely in love parents-to-be during the pregnancy stage:

During a truth and dare game after a couple of drinks with the lobola squad a member of the revealed that the groom-to-be was not the father of the bride-to-be’s child. The groom-to-be had been taking care of their child under the assumption that it was he was the father.
Check out the pics of the lobola squad below:

We are yet to hear whether or not these allegations are true from the involved persons.
In your opinion, who is in the wrong here?
Some on social media expressed that the friend was right in exposing this secret before the relationship went any further. However, others suggested that the friend proved to be disloyal to the bride and was probably moved to share the secret because of jealousy.
