]]>The current economic conditions have propelled people to have other projects that they embark on outside of their formal employment. Civil servants are at the forefront of this trend as they have previously been back and forth with the government on insufficient salaries. We covered the issue of these squabbles here. In order to supplement their income many have turned to chicken rearing.
Now it seems like chicken rearing is no longer an option for Midlands police. According to NewZimbabwe, these police officers have been asked to reduce the number of chickens they rear to 10 per family. The memo by police commanders conveying this message stated that there has been a spike in the water bill as a result of chicken rearing.
Vegetables gardens have also been limited to just one per family as they have also contributed to the high water bills.
Some civilians are looking disapprovingly at this move as they are concerned that since police won’t be able to supplement their income using honourable means, corruption will skyrocket.
