]]>The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network have released their World Happiness Report in which Zimbabwe has been named the unhappiest country in Africa with financial struggles being a key determining factor whilst Mauritius is the happiest country because of its relatively high-income levels.
The UN has used statistical analysis to determine the world’s happiest countries and 146 countries were ranked. Africa ranked as the unhappiest region in the world with a score of 4.5. That puts Zimbabwe at the bottom of the bottom of the list. The assessment makes sense to some extent as Zimbabwe had approximately 6.1 million people were living below the international poverty line in 2021. The alarming rise of crime in Zimbabwe is another indicator of the poverty issues currently being faced in Zimbabwe due to the degrading economy.
“The World Happiness Report is changing the conversation about progress and wellbeing. It provides important snapshots of how people around the world feel about the overall quality of their lives,” Christopher Barrington-Leigh, professor at McGill University in Quebec and a researcher involved in the report, said in a statement.
The top 10 happiest countries in Africa are:
Mauritius – 6.071
Libya – 5.330
Ivory Coast – 5.235
South Africa – 5.194
Gambia – 5.164
Algeria – 5.122
Liberia – 5.122
Congo – 5.075
Morocco – 5.060
Mozambique – 5.048
The bottom 10 unhappiest countries in Africa are:
Zimbabwe – 2.995
Rwanda – 3.268
Botswana – 3.471
Lesotho – 3.512

]]>The United Nations offered protective measures aimed at safeguarding vulnerable populations from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity. On Tuesday, 115 nations are said to have voted for the implementation of these provision. These nations include South Africa and Botswana.
However, it didn’t come as much of a surprise when countries notorious for such crimes voted against this United Nations measure. These countries include North Korea, Russia, China, Burundi, and Eritrea. These countries refused to vote for the resolution as they would then be answerable to the UN for any failure to protect their populous from the war induced atrocities, genocides and infringements on human rights. The aforementioned countries have been involved in atrocities against their own people and evidently would not like to be held responsible for that.
Zimbabwe has also refuted the UN resolution and apparently political analysts are not staggered by this move. The UN has placed Zimbabwe in 4th position on their list of notorious countries.
View the list below:

As mentioned before, this isn’t the first time Zimbabwe has been included in a list with some of the countries in the above list. View the Forbes list here.
However, perhaps we can still look on the bright side. The President stated that the country is on its way to becoming the bread basket of Africa once again. View the reasons for that notion in this article.

]]>This World Happiness Report of 2021 sought out to analyze the effects of Covid 19 and how people have responded to these. They further evaluated how governments all over have dealt with the pandemic.
For the 4th consecutive time Finland manged to scoop the first place in the happiest countries list. If you were thinking Zimbabwe managed to feature on this list, you have incredibly high hopes.
The report balanced out the equation and drew attention to the unhappiest countries on the Globe. If you thought Zimbabwe featured on this list, yes, we made it!
Before you argue, consider the following statement given by the report’s editor:
“The evidence shows that people’s morale improves when the government acts”
Could we then say our rank in this list is a strong reflection of the governments functionality? Perhaps you would say it is.
Our position as third on the unhappy countries’ list following Afghanistan and South Sudan surprised some. A citizen gave the following statement that seemed to echo many others’ sentiments. He said:
“kuiswa mutop 3 ne team rehondo here amana”
As much as this thought paints a very disappointing picture of the country and its governance, it can be reasoned, could a report based on a intangible measures produce very conclusive results such as these, or could there have been an agenda behind painting such an image on Zimbabwe?

What are your thoughts?
