The boxing champion Charles Manyuchi has been put in a tight spot by these regulations. He was set to fight against  Muhammad Sebyala, on the 3 July 2021. The event was due to take place in Masvingo. This event determines pretty much his whole career.

Manyuchi’s upcoming match is his opportunity to defend his belts. The belts he currently holds are the World Alliance Boxing Association (WABA) and World Professional Boxing Federation belts. If the boxer is not present for the fight set for 3 July he will automatically lose both these belts.

The Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board have reached out to the government, to try and make sure Charles Manyuchi gets to defend his belts by the mandatory date of 4 July 2021.

Perhaps, if the boxer is afforded this opportunity by the government he might be able to fly the nation’s flag even higher just as cricketer, Andy Flower recently did.

However, while we await a response from the government, all sporting activities will remain on hold in accordance with the new lockdown regulations. Various sports persons are finding it difficult to be under such circumstances. These individuals have not yet reached out to the government seeking an exception.
