The 20th of January 2021 will now be marked in history as the day that Sibusiso Moyo took his last breath. We might all remember him for delivering the message that changed the course of history in our country. “The situation in this country has moved to another level”.
Today the situation has indeed moved to another level with coronavirus deaths being reported at a high 825 in Zimbabwe. Among these deaths is of course Zimbabwe’s foreign minister Sibusiso Moyo. This marks the 4th death of high ranking officials killed by the deadly Covid 19 scourge.
Retired Lt-Gen Moyo was born in Mberengwa in 1960. He was the third of eight children but is said to have considered himself older than his older sisters. His bravado and authoritative appearance might have led you to believe that he was indeed the first of the eight. It was this brave spirit and sheer patriotism that urged him to put his form three studies on hold and join the liberation struggle in 1977.
Minister Moyo is survived by his wife Justice Joice Matanda Moyo who is a judge of the High Court and a chair of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission; and their two children.
President E.D Mnangagwa issued out a short statement to that effect stating that,
“The late minister succumbed to Covid 19 at a local hospital”
Our condolences and prayers go out to the Moyo family. We hope that they find consolation in these turbulent times.
