Dr Agnes Mahomva, Zimbabwe’s Chief Covid19 coordinator, this week took it upon herself to educate the nation on Covid19 vaccination. Mahomva also fills the role of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
Of late, there have been many opinions from unqualified citizens that serve to encourage the public to get vaccinated. Most of these opinions usually do not come from a scientific/medical standpoint, but rather from a sentimental or fear driven point. A statement by a citizen captured on ZTV speaking on the benefits of being vaccinated proves this. The unnamed lady encouraged people to get vaccinated “kuti zviendeke.”
Dr Agnes Mahomva, however, has what seems to be a sturdy foundation on which to lay her opinion.
The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) CEO,Charles Lyons had the following to say about Mahomva:
“Dr. Mahomva has dedicated her remarkable career to public health—and in particular, to children and families. Her leadership of EGPAF Zimbabwe has been steadfast, and her legacy transformative
Her colleagues and friends at EGPAF are certain that, in her new role at the Ministry, Dr. Mahomva will continue to have a profound impact on the health and wellbeing of Zimbabwe’s most vulnerable populations.”
With this background perhaps you can spare a minute or two to listen to why she says ‘the best’ vaccine is the one you have taken.
