The 2nd from last warriors’ AFCON qualifying match took place last night in Botswana. Zimbabwe has qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations finals with one more match to go!
Our warriors managed to beat Botswana with a score of 1-0 on the Botswana team’s own turf leaving Zimbabwe at 8 points. The match took place at Obed Itani Chilume Stadium in Francistown. The winning goal was scored by Perfect Chikwende. This took place after a series of troubles. For starters some of the players that were needed to complete the warriors team were still stuck in Australia.
Wilson Mutekede who is the technical advisor to ZIFA was ecstatic over this victory and is certain Zimbabweans were too. He shared the following statements:
“We are very happy about what the Warriors did here and we believe that Zimbabweans are happy too.”
CAPS United FC, light-heartedly took to their twitter to say that the victory did not come as a surprise given the USD hard currency bought bus that Caps loaned them.
Luxurious Caps United Bus inspires Warriors to a historic win.
"There is no way we would lose a match if we use such a bus," said a Warriors technical team member who preferred anonymity.
NB: The bus was bought in USD hard currency.

Less pressure is now on Zimbabwe as they face the final qualifying match against Zambia next week at the National Sports Stadium. As a result of their great performance Zambia will not be able to catch up with Zimbabwe as they have only 4 points. Nonetheless, the warriors are expected to play well against Zambia in the coming match.
Other other hand, Algeria leads Zimbabwe with 3 points as they managed to settle at 11 points after their 3-3 draw with Zambia.
The warriors performance came as a great relief to their coach, Zdravko Logarusic, as he was being criticised over the Warriors’ disastrous performance in Chan 2021 where they lost all three matches.
Serious preparations for the AFCON finals in Cameroon will soon be underway to avoid the embarrassment of the last tournament in Egypt were they only managed to accumulate just 1 point from three matches.
This Nations Cup qualification marks the fifth for the Warriors as they also qualified in the years 2004, 2006, 2017 and 2019.
