Over the past weekend, Mr Sirizani Butau managed to single-handedly teach Zimbabweans all over a very valuable lesson and encourage others to work together in showing their kindness. He did all this without saying a single word!
Butau’s Heroic Act
On Friday the 24th December 2021, a fatal accident took place in Mutare in which a tanker collided with a bus. The bus then caught on fire and Butau, who was not even involved in the accident, jumped out of his truck to assist. He managed to save 8 people’s lives whilst getting burns in the process.
The Rippling Effects Of Butau’s Deeds
Zimbabweans came together in expressing sentiments that Butau’s heroic actions needed to be rewarded. The incident later caught the President’s attention and he shared the following sentiments:
“Let me take this opportunity to appreciate Sirizani Butau who saved people from the Mutare accident. As government we will honour him for his selfless sacrifice”
Other took this as a lesson in the hospitality and kindness that Zimbabweans are able to show regardless of political affiliations. A Kenyan influencer who Zimbabweans stood for until she got an apology from the government, even shared the following statement which displays the common sentiment on the matter:
As if to further prove this point, Sirizani Butau has thus far reached his weekly transcational limit on Ecocash (which amounts to $35000) as Zimbabweans all over didn’t hesitate to send him money in appreciation of his good deeds.
Mr Butau commented from his Kadoma private hospital bed saying:
“I am humbled by the response. It is something that I never expected. My preoccupation on the day was to help and unfortunately got injured in the process, but I am doing well.”
5 people died in the accident while 60 others sustained injuries and were sent to Victoria Chitepo Hospital.
