The President of the Labour Economists and African Democrats (LEAD), Linda Masarira who confidently asserted that she will be Zimbabwe’s President in 2028 was caught up in a domestic violence case in 2019. Her former husband, Gilbert Kaingidza is said to have beat her so badly that the politician had to report him to the police. Following the report, Masarira was taken to the hospital for attention.
At the time, Masarira expressed that she had discovered that the husband was a spy for her political rivals. She continued to explain that her then husband bashed her when he found out that she had made this discovery. However, he was not given an opportunity to tell his side of the story to the media then.
Almost 2 years later, Kaingidza has finally opened up about what happened. He revealed that, although beating her was not right, he did so after he found a used condom under their bed. Upon being asked, Masarira is said to have suggested that it belonged to their 15 year old maid. He continued that the marriage was bound to collapse as a result of Masarira’s manipulative behaviour, unfaithfulness and alcoholism.
He further stated that Masarira was forced to survive on loan sharks as a result of her abuse of alcohol.
This behaviour seems to explain the question most Zimbabweans seemed to have in relation to the property theft she was previously accused of. They wondered why she had no property of her own for a woman of her stature. You can read about that here.
