Zimbabweans are used to competitive events in the fields of soccer, and other sports. However, although they are not as recognised as prominent sports like soccer, Zimbabwe’s chess team is doing their part in raising the country’s flag high.
The Chess FIDE World Cup will be held from July 10 to August 3 2021 in Sochi, Russia. However in order for our national team to qualify they need to come out in the top 4 in African Individual Chess Championship in Malawi. They set out for Malawi yesterday and below are the images of the team:
It seems like Zimbabwe need not worry as the team has strong members. For instance, the chess champion, Kudzanai Charinda was recently celebrated by the Zimbabwe Chess Federation. She is currently the best performing lady player in Zimbabwe 2021. She was named Easter Open Ladies Chess Champion and Zone 4.5 (Southern Africa) Chess World Cup Qualifiers Champion.
