The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) President Peter Mutasa was today arrested, alongside other ZCTU members after going ahead with a demonstration without clearance from the police.
ZCTU had planned to demonstrate against the move by Finance minister Pro Mthuli Ncube to introduce a 2% tax on all electronic money transactions, which amongst other fiscal measure has contributed to the recent price hikes.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police yesterday banned the planned protest on the grounds that they are yet to contain the devasting cholera outbreak, however the ZCTU defied the ban and today went on with the demonstration leading to the arrests.
