Getting a passport in Zimbabwe is a nightmare in itself, not only does one endure very long queues to be served but one also has to wait for a period of up to 6 months even up to 1 year to receive something as basic as a passport.
If the words of the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Ambassador Cain Mathema are anything to go by Zimbabweans will ‘soon’ be able to get a passport within 4 weeks, the Minister was speaking during a familiarization tour of the Registrar-General’s Central Registry in Harare.
The Minister also mentioned that he had spoken to the new Registrar-General (Mr Clemence Masango), who assured him that there is now a work plan in place to clear the backlog within the shortest possible time and bring passport production to within normal timelines.
So fingers crossed we should all start receiving our documents in a timely manner.
