At the beginning of the video, the little children call the prophet crazy and they use Shona vulgar words against him as well. They proceeded to trash the prophet’s music and threaten to beat him up.

One would think at this point the prophet would be angry at the children but he calmly continues casually talking to the children. He probes further to find out more about their lives and then later advises them to stay away from drugs.

Although it’s hard to ascertain if the little children use drugs, they do acknowledge that they know of drugs like Crystal Meth popularly known in Harare as “Guka”. The children also used words commonly used by adults as opposed to simple words expected for their ages.

This video comes as a culture shock for many. Growing up back in the 90s children were taught to behave a certain way especially in public and towards their elders. Firstly approaching the car of a stranger could potentially get you in deep trouble with your parents, let alone have conversations leaning on their car.

Children were expected to use certain language when they spoke to elders like “Makadini” “Maswera sei” which mean how are you and how was your day in plural form. The plural form is used to honour the adult. Insulting an elder was a punishable offence and these children insulted the prophet with such ease meaning they are exposed to that on a daily basis.

Although many may argue that not much should be expected from children that grow up in tough neighbourhoods, it is the responsibility of every parent/guardian, regardless of location, to discipline their child. There are so many people that are born and grow up in high-density areas like Mbare, Mufakose, Kuwadzana, Highfields etc that are respectful and do well. If these children are talking and acting like this at a young age, how will they turn out when they are adults?

Zodwa was recently on a very popular podcast in South Africa hosted by Tebogo Thobejane. During the hour long podcast Zodwa spoke about her marriage with Ginimbi and also took the liberty to clarify a few misconceptions she felt people had about her ex-husband.

When asked if Ginimbi was a blesser Zodwa immediately said “He was never a blesser, he would never be a blesser. He just used the girls because they were so loose and so cheap”. She went on to say “But what I knew, Genius never bought no girl a car. Genius never bought no girl an LV bag. Genius never bought no… he would spend his money in the club”.

Zodwa went on to encourage women to be more hardworking and aspire to have their own money than to rely on “blessers” for money. She also tackled other issues and shared her opinion on practices like stripping for money or having multiple sex partners. Zodwa also revealed that she has had less than five sex partners and she is a testament that hard work pays off more than aligning yourself with rich men.

When asked about her expensive cars and taste she responded that there is no rule that forbids friends from buying gifts for friends. She was also asked if Genius really had a “money snake”. To this question she responded “Can you believe that a snake can give money?”

She also answered questions about Genius’ source of income, her dating life, and also shared some of the events that took place on the day that Genius passed on.

Gogo Katsande’s has managed to support some little boys who come from less privileged backgrounds. The most inspiring thing for me was that she runs most of the academy out of her own pocket.

Some Zimbabwean youths have been able to land massive deals with teams such as Liverpool FC. It is Gogo’s dream that her boys one day reach such heights, but of course, it hasn’t been an easy way up.

The Controversial Sermon

A certain Dr. Burnett L. Robinson who was the senior pastor at Grand Concourse Seventh-Day Adventist Temple, Bronx NY recently shook the internet. He gave a sermon in which he mentioned that “the best person to rape is your wife.” Sounded better in his head and probably not what was meant. Or maybe that’s what he meant.

Whatever the case was, the Pastor faced some serious backlash from all over.

Below are just a handful of the sentiments shared:

Response 1:

“Marital rape is a thing. Just because you’re married, that doesn’t mean you’re entitled to your spouse’s body. God did not mean a spouse belonging to each other like that . This is exactly why God allows divorce. He knew that some spouses would be victims of a wicked spouse. I hate how Pastor B. Robinson conflated submission in this manner. I’m glad the Greater New York Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church put him on administrative leave and that the overall North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is standing with the Greater New York Conference. I’m glad the Seventh-day Adventist Church is taking this seriously. This is a shame only on the pastor, not the Church. I hope they fire Pastor B. Robinson and that he’s never allowed to speak from the pulpit again.”

Response 2:

“Why people are leaving organized religion in droves: Exhibit A. Getting married doesn’t mean you forfeit your right to say no.”

Response 3:

“There’s so many church goers that promote this type of behavior. I’m just glad he’s being exposed and hopefully others like him will be discouraged from preaching this nonsense.”

Response 4:

“In this day and age, during 16 days of Activism against Gender Based Violence in South Africa, I hear this kind of statement! Backward thinking and definitely not what the Bible teaches on being a submissive wife! Raping someone is not an act of love because in the next verse, men are called to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Some pastors need an education!”

A Fellow Pastor Responds:

One Pastor who identifies as Donnovan Wint and has previously associated with the pastor in question had the following to say:

“I take no pleasure in saying this; however, this is appalling and not a stance taken by believing SDA Christians. I think his mouth went ahead of his brain. I happened to know the Pastor; he was in fact the Pastor of my church in Jamaica during my teenage years. I don’t know how an intelligent man could even let such a thing comes from his mouth. My wife was livid when she read the article someone sent her. When she shared the article, her disbelief and anger with me…and once I figured out who this Pastor was I could not believe it. I haven’t seen this Pastor in some 40+ years; however, I remembered him to be a good Pastor. I just don’t know what has happened here, but I will be praying for Pastor Robinson; because he needs our prayers. I also pray for those who were offended…and continue to be, by his cutting words! …”husband love your wife as Christ loves the church”. If only he had chosen to based his sermon on that text!”
