Yet another day of illegal items passing through Robert Mugabe Airport. This time the police managed to catch on really fast as a result of a tip off they received.
On Monday 10 May 2021, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) brought and drug mule to a halt and managed to arrest her. The drug mule in question was a female transporting $7 million worth of cocaine. She is said to have had some of the substance stashed in her undergarments and believed to have ingested the rest of it.
The cocaine found on her weighed up to one kilogram. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a statement with regards to this incident saying that the police currently have the female foreign under strong surveillance. He said the following:
“She is believed to have ingested some of the plastic balls containing the cocaine in a bid to avoid detection at the airport”
This is not the first incident of attempts to pass through Robert Mugabe Airport while in possession of unlawful items by criminals. The most recent was the gold conundrum we covered in a previous article. In this case however, the man suspected to be working with President of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation, Henrietta Rushwaya, managed to pass through the airport. Unfortunately he was caught upon landing on the other side.
