Zimbabwe had been under lock and key with places like restaurants and schools closed. Intercity travels had all been prohibited. However, new measures were announced.
On Wednesday the government agreed on a set of new measures. Schools are now to be reopened starting on the 30th of August. Restaurants can also open with immediate effect to fully vaccinated individuals.
Intercity travels have also been permitted. No doubt this has been received well by those who live outside of Harare who weren’t able to access the city. However, these travels have been permitted to mainly accommodate the reopening of schools. As a result, transportation from these areas will be closely monitored.
While restaurants have been opened for fully vaccinated individuals, schools present a different case. This is because most school children are too young to receive vaccination. In order to combat this problem, the government is said to have met with teacher organisations to discuss measures for the safe reopening of schools.
Cabinet advised that schools reopen on the 30th of August 2021 for examination classes and on the 6th of September 2021 for non-examination classes.
