Zimbabwe’s parastatal railway, National Railways of Zimbabwe has made a huge purchase to advance their industry.
NRZ has put $US1.5 million to the purchase of fleet vehicles. Many are wondering why NRZ, which is meant to focus on the country’s railway system, seems to be deviating from their mode of transport altogether.
However, as if to counter the sceptics, the NRZ ascertained that the vehicles are necessary in the transformation of the organisation. It was stated that the vehicles will be used to carry out the organisational operational activities.
The vehicles purchased are as follows:
- 12 eight tonne lorries
- 17 motor cycles
- 17 operational single cab pick-up trucks
- Honda Fit
- 4 operational minibuses and 7 for the executive management

Just as you might already think, not everyone was happy about this development. Some have suggested that NRZ is a dead parastatal while others pointed out that more attention must be given to the railway lines that are being stolen. Others simply asked, “How many trains are working?”
