Covid-19 cases in Zimbabwe have reportedly decreased at the nation was eased into a Level 2 Lockdown from Level 4.
As a part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19 the government has been using various, methods to encourage vaccination. Their efforts have even caused the World Health Organisation to recognise the nation as leading in SADC on their vaccination drive. This is where people start to wonder whether the measures being taken to encourage vaccination have ulterior, perhaps egotistical motives.
Although encouraged, vaccination is supposedly an individual’s personal choice. Denmark even did away with measures such as vaccination following reports of the effects of vaccination on some individuals.
However, in practice it doesn’t seem to be a personal choice. The government itself had previously barred unvaccinated individuals from attending church services and arrested some who were caught on the wrong side of this regulation. Other companies laid out ultimatums concerning vaccination to their employees.
OK Zimbabwe recently joined those employers. Although, they have not given their employees ultimatums, they just sent unvaccinated employees home on unpaid leave. The employees can resume work once they are vaccinated. This leaves employees who are desperate for their jobs with no other choice.
Should such measures be taken to “encourage” vaccination?
