Hope has been restored for Alvin Zhakata, but not in the form we might have expected or imagined.
The warrior’s super-fan has been stuck in Cameroon where he collapsed whilst attending the AFCON 2021 games in support of the warriors.
Warriors No 1 Fan
Alvin Aluvah Zhakata is known for his undying love and support for the warriors. And his passion for the sport has driven him into a series of unfortunate events.
In 2019 Alvin hitch hiked to Cairo Egypt to support the warriors and the journey took him 51 days to complete. He however didn’t manage to watch them play live as they were knocked out before he arrived. Talk about enthusiasm!
Alvin travelled again last year to support the warriors and this time he collapsed after the Morocco-Malawi game. After days of tests Alvin Zhakata twitted that the President of Fecafoot Samuel Eto’o Fils has paid for his hospital bills.
Samuel Eto’o Fils is a Cameroonian football administrator and former player who is the current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation from 11 December 2021.
Is Alvin’s faith misplaced?
One can’t help but ask themselves if the effort is worth the outcome. The warriors came back home in January and left Alvin in a Cameroon hospital. They received US$20 000 each and other allowances despite their poor performance (according to Newsday). Its baffling how their number one fan still had outstanding bills despite the lengths he goes to support the team.
