On Sunday, Guinea under went a situation that is still shaking the nation. It’s leader Alpha Conde, had been viewed by some as too old and incompetent. Just like in many African countries, the citizens cried out that the government felt like a dictatorial leadership. Resultantly, the President’s defence forces took matters into their own hands and arrested Conde. Thereafter, they are said to have dissolved the constitution.

Alpha Conde has since been taken into custody and the military have since announced some changes. The coup was announced on television in a similar manner to the Zimbabwean case. An unidentified soldier, draped in the nation’s flag and surrounded by eight other officers, said they planned to form a transitional government. Details on this are yet to be revealed.

However, although there were claims that the coup was successfully being contained, the situation on the ground seems to reveal something different. The ex-president Alpha Condé is said to still be under custody of the special forces and has seen a doctor said Mamady Doumbouya, commander of the Guinean special forces, ex French Foreign Legion, and coup instigator.

This event has conme after Africa had just rejoiced over the change in regime that took place in Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema victory inspired hope in many African’s hearts including Zimbabweans who have since been analysing the Zambian results and how they were achieved.

Perhaps President Mnangagwa might view the situation in Biseau similarly to how he views the Zambian situation.
