Olinda Chapel-Nkomo shared a picture of a Covid positive test a few days ago on her Facebook page with the caption “Ma one”.
Today on Facebook, Olinda posted of Facebook;
“Amana covid ma one. Ndaizviita ndururani the last 3 years ndichiti ndiri strong. Chinhu chino chino rwadza. Plus kuita kunge wakutopenga. Apo I have 3 vaccines. Haaaaaa ndabhooo. I want to go back to work”

Olinda talks about how the illness is causing her pain and making her feel like she is hallucinating or going mad. And all this despite getting three shots of the Covid 19 vaccine.
Recently many countries like South Africa, Kenya, Denmark and many others have announced that they have removed most (if not all) Covid restrictions as they feel that people are coping well due to good vaccine uptake. With a few people like Olinda Chapel-Nkomo getting ill, could removing measures spark another wave?

]]>Authorities in Denmark have declared that the Covid 19 virus no longer qualifies as a critical threat, and have decide to ditch all domestic regulations. This makes Denmark the first European Country to do so.
Why take the risk?
Much like South Africa, experts have mentioned the country’s high vaccination rates as one of the reasons ditching regulations. More than 80% of the population over the age of 5 had two vaccinations and over 60% have been given a third booster shot.
“With Omicron not being a severe disease for the vaccinated, we believe it is reasonable to lift restrictions,” epidemiologist Lone Simonsen of the University of Roskilde told the AFP news agency.
How completely is completely?
Unlike South Africa that has effected Level 1 lite (regulations are very minimal), Denmark has scratched the regulations all together. From Tuesday, masks are no longer required in shops, restaurants, and on public transport. Limits on the number of people allowed at indoor gatherings and social distancing measures also come to an end.
The national Covid pass app is no longer required – although individual event organizers can still choose to make it a condition of entry. Nightclubs have reopened, late-night alcohol sales have resumed, and the Danish coronavirus app is no longer needed to enter venues. If Denmark was a person and regulations were clothes, they would be roaming the streets naked.
What does this mean for Zimbabwe?
There has been a trend in past months were announcements have been made following suit of our neighbor South Africa. With Denmark scratching it domestic regulations, Zimbabwe is bound to follow the lead. Schools are set to open soon and we can surely anticipate the decisions taken by South African and Danish leaders will affect our own.

]]>Considering all of the above, no doubt Denmark’s move to abandon all covid-19 preventative measures came as a surprise. The Danish Parliament ruled that coronavirus measures are to be abolished starting on 1 October 2021. No testing will be carried out either. This decision has come amidst a rise in covid cases world over.
Why did the country settle on this seemingly reckless decision?
Denmark’s SSI infectious diseases agency said they still have the herd immunity goal in mind. However the way in which they will achieve it is what is changing. The country will no longer be relying on vaccination to achieve herd immunity.
The agency stated that it must be expected that as people return to their usual day to day activities, new infections will rise. However they emphasised the need to not be alarmed as the new wave will be similar of the flu.
This move also comes during a time were some people are losing trust in vaccines. One of the reasons is that the vaccines were not developed and approved for the prevention of infection with the SARS-COV-2 virus. They are said to only prevent a severe course of the disease.
Studies have shown that those that received the covid vaccine sometimes even have the same viral load upon infection as those who haven’t been vaccinated. With that in mind, a Danish lawyer stated that the pressure being put on individuals to get vaccinated lacks justification and could result in legal implications on corporates that force employees to be vaccinated.
