The South African company, Golden Arrow Bus Services is slowly beginning to change the face of public transportation in South Africa. This comes about with their introduction of two electric buses.

At a ceremony which was graced by the Daylin Mitchell, the Western Cape Minister of Transport and Public Works, the two buses were launched. This came after a year long test period.

These two new buses were manufactured by a Chinese car manufacturer BYD in partnership with uYilo. They now run between the suburb of Retreat and the city centre of Cape Town.

Its not just the buses that are electrical! This service also includes an electrical smart card fare system which is otherwise known as the Tap and Go system.

Citizens are confident that Golden Arrow Bus Services will continue on this path as they have already been committed to sustainability since 2017, equipping its facilities with two small solar photovoltaic plants of 25 kWp each.

The world is definitely moving more and more towards sustainability. For instance, we previously covered the issue of a Zimbabwean who was selected as part of the world top 100 innovators after his creation of an electric car.
