The post Joe Biden snubs Zambian President over gay rights. appeared first on Provoker Magazine.
]]>Last week the Vice President Mutale Nalumango told Parliament that Zambia will not entertain gay rights. The major reason stated for this is that Zambia is a Christian Nation.
Mrs Nalumango emphasised the following:
“We are a Christian Nation and that remains on the books. If this government at any one time wants gay rights, you will be the first to know but we are a Christian Nation, we continue to be who we are”
Following this announcement, the president of America who embraces gay rights, was quick to make his move too. Zambia had long been anticipating the meeting between President Hakainde Hichilema and Joe Biden. However, the meeting was abruptly cancelled.
Senior Zambia Diplomats close to Washington revealed that the meeting was cancelled following the VP Nalumango’s announcement on gay rights. They further indicated that this move was a clear message that the US would not support countries opposed to gay rights.
The Diplomats revealed that since the coming of President Hakainde Hichilema the Chargé d’Affaires David Young had indicated that Zambia was now ready to embrace gay rights. Their hopes are that the cancellation of the meeting has sent a clear signal to Zambia.
A number of African countries still don’t tolerate gays in their countries. For instance, Nigeria is said to have been recently threatened with travel and financial sanctions over the same issue.
Zimbabwe has also shown intolerance on the matter. A Saint Johns College School Board Chairman has previously had to resign over gay teacher scandal.
Even in America where gay rights are embraced, much noise surrounded the scene of the gay presidential candidate who kissed his lover on stage.

]]>The ruling Zanu PF party on the other hand is now also claiming Hakainde Hichilema, in a post on one of their Facebook page named EDhasmyhope the ruling party says Hakainde Hichilema’s UPND party is similar to Zanu PF, than the outgoing Patriotic Front, the irony!
Below is their full statement;
HH contested Presidential Election 6 times and Wamba Brigade is not aware of that
What Wamba Brigade, dont know is that historically and ideologically speaking, Lungu’s party is the real MDC of Zambia although both Lungu’s party and Hichilema’s UPND are splinter parties of Chiluba’s MMD, Hichilema’s party has the closest links with Kaunda’s UNIP as a lot of leaders who served under Kaunda joined hands with Hichilema’s party. In 2006 for example, UNIP and other opposition parties fielded Hichilema as their presidential candidate. So UPND, the party of Hichilema, is the one that can be said to share historical and ideological similarities with Zanu PF.However the major observation with Zambian politics if compared to politics in the rest of SADC, is that it is the only country alongside Malawi that have seen their founding independent ruling parties being dislodged from power several times. Kaunda first lost it to the party of Lungu, then led by Chiluba. At one time, albeit inside a coalition UNIP won back the power and lost it again when Lungu came to power. However the disappearance of UNIP from the Zambian political turf today can be attributed to the personalisation of leadership of the UNIP presidency to the Kaundas as KK’s son stuck to the helm of that party among many other reasons. As for the second republic in Zimbabwe, those in the know are aware how Lungu tried to entertain the idea of militarily coming to the rescue of RG following the November 2017 transition in Zimbabwe. However he later abandoned the idea after noticing that the caucus for liberation war parties of Southern Africa were fully behind the coup that was not a coup depending on one’s persuasion.
In my view, in so far as the Zambian threat is concerned, the second republic in Zimbabwe will welcome the victory of Hichilema.

]]>Africans have know elections to often yield results that don’t align with the majority’s general sentiment with regard to the country’s leadership. There have been various speculations on how some African leaders have rigged elections to stay in power. Whatever the case is, elections are often a stressful time. In Zimbabwe, members of the electoral board have had to receive counselling to help them deal with the trauma of the ‘free and fair’ election period.
Many thought Zambia’s elections wouldn’t be any different. However, you can imagine the celebrations that are currently underway as the opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema had a landslide victory of 2,810,777 votes against Edgar Lungu’s 1,814,201.
The freeness and fairness exhibited by these elections came so unexpectedly even for the now former president, Lungu. According to Lungu, the elections were not free and fair. Just as the common narrative goes, Lungu is said to have had plans to rig these elections like some African leaders are said to do. However, YouTube is now flooded with videos of voters showing no mercy to those that were caught with pre-marked ballot papers.
Those in the comment section of the videos showing the merciless treatment of people caught in possession of pre-marked ballot papers, attributed the election result to the unity of the citizens. Their strong will of saying enough is enough and working together to stop any corrupt activities pertaining to the elections was applauded.

So to sum it up, “unity” of the voters and taking collaborated action is said to be the major reason why the alleged rigging plans failed.
