We have seen these stories over the years. People commit adultery and end up stuck together, or in this case experiencing severe pain.

A student in Mongu Zambia is experiencing terrible pain after sleeping with a married man over the weekend.

The student named Mercy told BBN (Barotseland Broadcasting Network) in an interview that she felt as if fire was burning her private parts and she was failing to sit properly without opening her legs for fresh air. She also spoke about failing to urinate even though she felt a lot of pressure.

“It all started yesterday in the morning after I left the lodge in town. What really happened is that, I went with my friends to attend the Mongu music festival on Saturday night at Mongu stadium where musicians such as Chef 187, Bobby east and many Mbunga artists were performing.

Within the arena three guys approached us and we shared each one of them with my friends. We also went to continue partying at Shanaya club in town. After 02:00hrs my friends with their partners left the club and went to their respectively guys home.

We also left the club and went to check on a room but unfortunately all four lodges we found they were already full. We only managed to find a room at Hippo’s and we slept there. But after having sex, he told me that he was a married man although his wife was a jealousy type and also very violent. So he said we should play it very low by going to chill to far places away from Mongu town. I told him that I was also a student and needed some support of formal of upkeeps.

Around 05:00hrs he woke up and demanded for a morning glory and afterwards he said he was going home so that his wife shouldn’t notice that he slept out but from the club. He left me a K50 and said he was going to send me something before 10:00hrs.

After leaving the lodge around 09:00hrs, I started feeling so much pain inside my vagina but again considering the fact that his penis was too small, I doubted. The pain kept on growing reaching to the point of me failing to sleep well last night. It was too hot last night and I could feel fire burning inside my vagina and was forced sat on a dish of water. I went to the hospital in the morning but they saying maybe it’s just internal pains and only told me to get this type of medication. Still more , it’s even getting worse.

Around 11hrs, we went to see Dr Mushitu in Mabumbu area of Mongu and after telling him what transpired he said my issue it’s too complicated because the wife had put medicines to protect his husband penis that whoever sleeps with him shall never have peace with her vagina. He said I should go to Kalabo or Lukulu for proper treatment but again it’s too expensive because it’s to clean and remove the Ghost”

Efforts are being made to get Mercy further treatment with witch doctors. Is this a case of witchcraft or some infection/STI? We will never know.

It’s alarming how it’s becoming normal for many young students -even in Zimbabwe- to sleep around with hopes of gaining something financially. The married man gave Mercy 50 Kwacha which is roughly USD$2.70. It does not buy a morning after (she didn’t mention a condom) and medication. She did not mention the man sending her any more money and she mentions that she cannot afford any more treatments.

This incident could give clues on how the HIV virus continues to spread at the rate that it does. People simply do not fear for their health but rather prioritise their pleasure. The Mongu student is not even worried that she could be HIV positive or pregnant but she’s concerned about the pains so that her life goes back to normal. A UN report revealed that Zimbabwe has the third-highest number of HIV positive women in Southern Africa. With new inventions like the HIV prevention ring for women and the false confidence that could come from having it, such behaviour displayed by the Mongu student will get even worse. Will finding a cure for HIV benefit the moral integrity of our African society?

The new president of Zambia has thus far shown that he will not be tolerating gays in his nation regardless of what anyone says. Even the President of America, Joe Biden has been shaken by this move.

Last week the Vice President Mutale Nalumango told Parliament that Zambia will not entertain gay rights. The major reason stated for this is that Zambia is a Christian Nation.

Mrs Nalumango emphasised the following:

“We are a Christian Nation and that remains on the books. If this government at any one time wants gay rights, you will be the first to know but we are a Christian Nation, we continue to be who we are”

Following this announcement, the president of America who embraces gay rights, was quick to make his move too. Zambia had long been anticipating the meeting between President Hakainde Hichilema and Joe Biden. However, the meeting was abruptly cancelled.

Senior Zambia Diplomats close to Washington revealed that the meeting was cancelled following the VP Nalumango’s announcement on gay rights. They further indicated that this move was a clear message that the US would not support countries opposed to gay rights.

The Diplomats revealed that since the coming of President Hakainde Hichilema the Chargé d’Affaires David Young had indicated that Zambia was now ready to embrace gay rights. Their hopes are that the cancellation of the meeting has sent a clear signal to Zambia.

A number of African countries still don’t tolerate gays in their countries. For instance, Nigeria is said to have been recently threatened with travel and financial sanctions over the same issue.

Zimbabwe has also shown intolerance on the matter. A Saint Johns College School Board Chairman has previously had to resign over gay teacher scandal.

Even in America where gay rights are embraced, much noise surrounded the scene of the gay presidential candidate who kissed his lover on stage.

Just another day in Africa where the talk of free and fair elections is nothing new. Only this time the result that has come from these free and fair elections is significantly different from what Africans say they have come to know ‘free and fair’ elections to be.

Africans have know elections to often yield results that don’t align with the majority’s general sentiment with regard to the country’s leadership. There have been various speculations on how some African leaders have rigged elections to stay in power. Whatever the case is, elections are often a stressful time. In Zimbabwe, members of the electoral board have had to receive counselling to help them deal with the trauma of the ‘free and fair’ election period.

Many thought Zambia’s elections wouldn’t be any different. However, you can imagine the celebrations that are currently underway as the opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema had a landslide victory of 2,810,777 votes against Edgar Lungu’s 1,814,201.

The freeness and fairness exhibited by these elections came so unexpectedly even for the now former president, Lungu. According to Lungu, the elections were not free and fair. Just as the common narrative goes, Lungu is said to have had plans to rig these elections like some African leaders are said to do. However, YouTube is now flooded with videos of voters showing no mercy to those that were caught with pre-marked ballot papers.

Those in the comment section of the videos showing the merciless treatment of people caught in possession of pre-marked ballot papers, attributed the election result to the unity of the citizens. Their strong will of saying enough is enough and working together to stop any corrupt activities pertaining to the elections was applauded.

View some other comments on this matter below:

So to sum it up, “unity” of the voters and taking collaborated action is said to be the major reason why the alleged rigging plans failed.

What are your thoughts?

Zambia has a new president. Hakainde Hichilema’s UPND cruised to victory over the Patriotic Front’s candidate Edgar Lungu with over a million votes.

This election was Hakainde Hichilema’s 6th attempt, the journey wasn’t easy for him though, and the 59 year old had to endure political persecution including getting arrested for treason.

The incumbent Edgar Lungu was vying for his third term after amending the constitution. He has since declared the election not free and fair.

Hichilema secured 2,810,757 votes against Lungu’s 1,814,201 with 155 of 156 constituencies having been announced.

Zambian’s celebrating Hakainde’s win in Lusaka

The youths is Zambia played a vital role in this election after enduring economic hardships and repression under Edgar Lungu’s tenure.

Celebrations are under way in Zambia, as the nation pins I hopes of revival on the business tycoon.

A similar script played out in Malawi with the youth of that country also coming out in huge numbers to vote.

The Zambian president, Edgar Lungu has just released a statement through his Special Assistant, Isaac Chimpampe declaring the election not Free and Fair.

This move is rare particularly for a sitting president in Africa, the Zambian president is claiming that his polling agents were chased from polling stations and that his parties North  West province chairman, Jackson Kungo was also murdered amongst other reason, which render the elections not free and fair, the President has since deployed the army into Zambia’s streets to maintain peace so to speak.

This comes as the leader of Zambia’s largest opposition party  The United Party for National Development (UPND) Hakainde Hichilema is leading the incumbent, in early election results.

It seems like the issue of non payment of salaries or inadequate salaries is not just a Zimbabwean problem. A TV presenter for Zambia’s KBN TV probably felt like he wasn’t being heard on the issue of salaries. He decided to use his voice and his platform in an unexpected manner.

During a news presentation, the presenter disrupted the news to demand salaries.

Watch the video below:

Here in Zimbabwe, the issue of salaries has been a back and forth matter especially among civil servants, particularly teachers. Before schools opened, teachers even protested saying that they would not report for duty until their salaries were revised.

The first and former president of Zambia died on 17 June 2021. He was 97 years of age.

The nationalist is said to have been in hospital being treated for pneumonia when he died. To mourn their beloved hero, Zambia has declared a 21 day mourning period for Kaunda.

Kenneth Kaunda was born on the 28th of April 2021. He became the Zambian president in 1964 and finished his rule in 1991. The fight for Africa’s independence was of utmost importance to the leader. This led him to play a fundamental role in fighting colonialist rule in neighbouring countries.

Most African leaders are sometimes described as corrupt dictators who focus primarily on their own gain. However, Kenneth Kaunda was referred to by some as the most humane of African leaders.

At this time the nation is tense. The Zimbabwean government is said to be part of the Zungula Bridge Project ‘in principle.’ It now seems as if ‘in principle’ in this case might also mean ‘is not really part of.’

A press release revealing the agreement was shared and Zimbabwe seems to be nowhere to be found in the agreement. The letter seems to show that the President did not attend the event as a part of the project but as an invited guest Zimbabwe.

The press statement also states that the “Kazungula Bridge Project is a testament of the fruitful cooperation enjoyed by Botswana and Zambia.” It is not yet clear how Zimbabwe will ‘principally’ be involved.

View the statement below:

Why is this matter being given this much attention?

Zimbabwe has long enjoyed the movement of trucks within the SADC region through the Beitbridge border. The north-south corridor route on which the Kazungula Bridge is to be built was once declared illegal under the Rhodesian government rule. Mugabe continued to support that stance thereby protecting the inflow of revenue from our borders usage.

Now with the Kazungula Bridge in the picture, most of  this expected revenue will likely now be enjoyed by the developers of the bridge namely Botswana and Zambia. We now wait for clarity on the exact role Zimbabwe will be playing.

What are your thoughts?
