]]>One such winning lady is Precious Marange, a woman from the Eastern Highlands. She is a single mom with a passion for cricket and rugby. Precious tries to make a living for her family by working at a factory in her region. Her passion for the two sports, cricket and rugby took her to the national teams for both sports. Imagine that!
How does she manage to do it all?
Watch a day in her life below:
One can only hope that being in the national team pays off for her. Unfortunately, it seems to some that sports are often neglected in Zimbabwe. For instance, the male cricket team had to rely on a donation for something as little as a pair of shoes for each member.

]]>The body has what is known as the ICC Hall of Fame where they recognise the achievements of cricket legends in the world. Zimbabwe had never had a player to feature in the hall of fame since its introduction in 2009. This changed in June 2021 as Zimbabwean cricket star Andy Flowers, was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
Andy Flower, the former world number 1 batsman played 63 Tests, scoring 4 794 runs at 51.54, took 151 catches with nine stumpings as a wicketkeeper batsman.
Last year, 2020, the star was appointed as head coach for Multan Sultans, St Lucia Zouks and as Assistant coach for Kings XI Punjab in the Indian Premier League. The following year, on 22 December 2011, he was awarded the 2011 Coach of the Year in the BBC Sports Personality of the year awards.
Considering his achievements, it probably didn’t come as much of a surprise that Flower was featured on the ICC Hall of Fame.
It is noteworthy that a Zimbabwean is flying the nation’s flag high in the field of cricket. Perhaps more talent would be unleashed if more support was given to the nation’s team and they didn’t have to rely on hand-outs.

]]>Zimbabwean cricket fans have admitted that the situation is embarrassing. Zimbabwe Cricket apparently failed to accommodate for the needs of the national team including providing them with something as basic as shoes. One of the team players had enough and decided to take his laments to twitter. He shared pictures of his shoes being glued after a match as they didn’t have any other pairs.
Fortunately, Puma took notice and responded favourably. We shared those details in a previous article here.
The new shoes have already been sent via express shipping and are on their way. Check out the shoes below:

]]>Ryan Burl, a Zimbabwean cricketer took o this twitter to share one of his sad routines after matches. He was gluing his running shoes in order for him to be able to wear them again. In the caption related to the image he hinted that this might not have been the first time he has had to do such. He decided enough was enough and took his laments to the public. Burl is apparently not the only cricketer to try and make the best use of what is left of his shoes. He emphatically stated “Any chance we can get a sponsor so we don’t have to glue our shoes back after every series.” The image had two pairs of shoes in the process of being glued together.
Cricket fans were saddened by the situation saying that it reflects a pitiful side of Zimbabwean sport. Players are not compensated as they should be. However, others feel that this move will land him in huge trouble with officials responsible for Zimbabwe Cricket. Others just commented with the hashtag #criedmybelovedcountry.
Fortunately, a sponsor has pitched in and promised that they won’t be needing to glue their shoes together again. Its not just any sponsor, but the largest sportswear manufactures in the world, Puma.
View the response below:

We almost can’t blame former cricket captain Heath Streak for the scandals we covered in this article given the sorry state of Zimbabwean Cricket depicted by this post.
Fortunately, the cricket team landed this sponsorship. It well deserved following their hard work such as in their recent first win against Pakistan in a T20I match. Read about that in this article.

]]>Its almost a full week since Zimbabwe broke history in the T20I match against Pakistan. This morning as Zimbabwe takes on Pakistan a Zimbabwe cricket a second time, history’s course has been altered once again. Umpire Langton Rusere will be standing in as the umpire of the match. He has certainly come a long way before this great ground breaking achievement. He umpired for his first international match on the 24th of October 2015 which was between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan.
Fast forward to 2018 January, Rusere was one of the seventeen on-field umpires for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup which was held in New Zealand.
So you might be wondering what makes today’s match so special in comparison to the previous matches he has umpired. Well, today’s match is a part of the test series. Test Series cricket is a little different to the usual as it has the longest match duration. It is also considered the games highest standard.
Congratulations Langton Rusere for umpiring such a prestigious match and changing histories course.

]]>Mukhlani describe the day of Streak’s ban as the “darkest day in Zimbabwean Cricket.” In addition he expressed his dismay at Streak’s use of his position in pursuit of dirty benefits. Furthermore he showed his unwavering support for the measures taken by the ICC and ZC to combat any criminality that reflected badly on cricket locally and globally.
The eight year ban was issued out Heath Streak after he was charged for meddling in betting. This included the revealing of inside information to be used in betting and the failure to disclose a payment in bitcoins from a potential corrupter to anti-corruption officials.
This proved to be a very sad situation as Heath Streak is considered a great influence in the sport. Statistics have shown that he is considered the best bowler to have played for Zimbabwe. He has represented Zimbabwe in cricket matches locally and internationally from 1993 to 2005.
