South Africa is once again setting the pace. They have allowed transgenders to compete in beauty pageants. Recently in other controversial news, South Africa took heed of women’s cry to marry more than two men and legalised polyandry. We covered that story here.
The South African female transgender community’s cries to be treated in the same manner as natural born women have been heard. Female transgenders, i.e females that were actually born male, will now compete alongside females that were born female. This news came at the right time as the entries for Miss South Africa are still open. Entries will be closed on the 24th of June 2021.
The Miss South Africa Organization has stated that although male to female transgenders can compete for the Miss South Africa title, a few other steps have to be taken for them to be eligible to represent the country internationally. An ID Document with the sex of the individual amended to “female” is needed.
Spain is one of the countries that have already implemented this change such that even Miss Universe Spain was transgender.
