Twitter users have equated Zimbabwe to South Africa in terms of xenophobia. South Africa has long been known for shunning Zimbabweans and accusing them of taking their jobs. These accusations have often ended in violent acts against Zimbabweans. Now Zimbabwe has been put in the same bracket.
The accusation came after an announcement stating that foreigners will not be allowed to conduct business in certain economic sub-sectors reserved for Zimbabweans.
However, this was received favorably by some Zimbabweans as it affords business opportunities to Zimbabwean citizens first. Other Zimbabweans were skeptical about this announcement, calling it an old “campaigning tool” that is used every time elections become close.
