The long wait is finally over for those who wrote their O-Levels in 2020 as the results have just been released. Students can now collect them from their respective regional offices.
It is now easy to access these result online via the ZIMSEC portal at www.zimsec.co.zw.
2020 was a challenging year for exam candidates. Due to the coronavirus situation, learning was quite difficult for students. In some cases, lessons resumed later on in the year and under out of the ordinary circumstances. It is no wonder then that there was a decline in the pass rate by 6.8% from that of 2019. This statistic sits this year’s pass rate at 24.8%.
The Zimsec chairperson, Professor Eddie Mwenje, issued a statement with regards to these results. He said:
“However, a historical analysis indicates that in 2014, a pass rate of 22,4 percent was recorded while in 2017 the country had a pass rate of 28,7 percent. This means that 2020 results are within range and this is commendable considering the devastating conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is also important to note that some countries that went into national lockdowns due to the pandemic also experienced a decrease in pass rate.”
