ZRP finally address the issue of death of a 14 year old pregnant minor (official statement inside)

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have finally spoken with regard to the tragic story of a 14 year old pregnant minor. The official statement came after a period of  dissatisfaction from Zimbabweans all over. People had been taking to their social media platforms in their numbers to demand that justice be served.

The 14 year old, Memory Machaya, is said to have died during childbirth at an Apostolic church gathering in Marange. She is said to have been pregnant with Evan Momberume’s child. Memory was the ‘wife’ of Momberume and had been forced out of school while doing form one.

The incident sparked so much anger amongst Zimbabweans especially since they were not seeing the police do anything about the matter. Social media users are currently trying to popularise the hashtag #justiceformemory. It is so sad that the issue of child marriages is still an ongoing concern in this day and age.

Influential persons like Strive Masiyiwa are moved by such sad stories of child marriages and advocate for the girl child’s right to education.
