The post Report for Duty or You’re Fired! Zim government gives striking Teachers Ultimatum appeared first on Provoker Magazine.
]]>The government of Zimbabwe has now roped in the Public Service Commission to force the hand of the teachers who, through their various labour bodies have rejected offers from the government so far, the latter is also digging in with the President, ED Mnangagwa vowing not to pay teachers the US$540 salary they are demanding.
The PSC has issued an ultimatum to teachers essentially if they do not report for duty by the 22nd of February they are deemed to have resigned, with the PSC starting the recruitment of new teachers shortly after that.
Below is the full statement from the PSC.
The opening of schools has brought to the fore the importance of safeguarding the inalienable right of every Zimbabwean child to an education as provided for in Section 75 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.
It is in this context that Government has, in its efforts to improve the welfare of its workers, continued to engage with workers’ representatives in the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC).
The NJNC meeting held on the 11th of February 2022 welcomed the directive by His Excellency President E.D. Mnangagwa to improve the Government offer to its employees through a combination of monetary and non-monetary incentives.
In the category of non-monetary benefits, teachers would benefit from a school fees exemption to cover three children per family.
Plans were also announced to construct institutional accommodation for teachers at or around the school premises. The total would be 34 000 units over a five-year period.
Government shall maintain the current vehicle duty-free privilege for civil servants.
Advancement awards within grades, which had been suspended for some time, will be resumed with immediate effect to recognize seniority.
Government notes with concern that, in spite of the significant steps it has taken to improve conditions of service, working with the Apex Council, some teachers continue to absent themselves from work, with some reporting for duty but not working.
This has had the effect of depriving learners of their inalienable right to education as well as prejudicing parents of their significant investment in their children’s education.
This behaviour on the part of some teachers is all the more distressing in view of the fact that it is coming at a time when learners have already lost more than a month of learning in 2022 alone due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and were therefore looking forward to the opportunity to catch up with their studies.
Such behaviour cannot be tolerated as it will have a lasting, negative impact on an entire generation.
It is in this context that Government is taking the following measures:
All teachers, deputy heads and heads of schools who do not report for duty by Tuesday 22 February 2022 will be deemed to have resigned from the service;
- Those reporting for duty but not teaching will also be deemed to have resigned;
- All those who will have in that manner so resigned and were occupying institutional accommodation are expected to vacate the same with immediate effect;
- Unemployed trained teachers, university and college graduates in the sciences, engineering, technical, vocational areas and other disciplines who are interested in joining the teaching profession should ensure that they are registered at the nearest district education offices as the recruitment process shall begin soon after the 22nd of February 2022; and
- Those deemed to have resigned shall not be eligible for this recruitment.
Government has taken the position that it will now work with those who demonstrate their commitment by performing their duties at all times to serve the nation.
In terms of Section 75 sub-section 4 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, concerning the right to education, the Government of Zimbabwe has already taken reasonable legislative and other measures, within the limits of the resources available to it, to achieve the progressive realisation of the right to education.

]]>The new fares come into effect on the 16th of February 2022.
The fare hike is likely not going to do away with the long queues, the commuting public has to endure on a daily basis since the government banned private players.
Kombi fares have been reviewed from ZWL$80 to ZWL$100 and bus fares have been increased to ZWL$80 to ZWL$50.
Below of the full fare schedule of the new fares.
ZUPCO drivers were earlier this month on strike citing poor remuneration, a situation that saw many of the travelling masses stranded with some resorting to pirate taxis also known as Mushika-shika.
Is it high time the government re-introduced kombis, what do you think?

]]>Abraham the servant of God who has in the past made accurate prophecies about events in the nation and abroad including the death of Prophet TB Joshua was giving prophecies for Zimbabwe for the year 2022 on his YouTube Channel.
In a 5 minute clip (above) he further advised the young Prophet to leave the country otherwise it will not end well for him.
Who do you think he is referring to here?

]]>The aggrieved woman(Ennet Masora) took to Facebook to narrate her ordeal and share screenshots of the conversation.
This is what she had to say;
I would like to name and shame Women’s bank Zimbabwe. Have never been to the bank and l don’t owe them money. Of course people make mistakes but the way this guy handled the issue shocked me. I tried to explain when he called and l told him to check the number again because last year a lady from the same bank made the same mistake and apologized. Unfortunately this guy shouted using deep deep Shona ndikapusa. Imagine if l really owed them.
Below is the exchange between the two.
As weird as it may sound this is Zimbabwean customer service in a nutshell.
With bodies like the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe(CCZ) now barely functional. Zimbabweans have resorted to creating name and shame groups on social media.
We are yet to get an official response from the bank, we will update you when we do.

Fadzayi Mahere’s full statement below;
#BREAKING Over 200 youths mobilized by ZANU PF have violently attacked President Chamisa’s convoy & advance team on their way to meet community leaders in Masvingo. They stoned cars, barricaded roads with burning logs & assaulted members of our team who’ve now been hospitalized.
This political violence being meted out at President Nelson Chamisa’s delegation in Masvingo is cause for concern.
Barricading roads with burning logs & chanting hate speech is primitive politics.
The regime is terrified of citizens converging for change. #ChamisaNgaapinde

]]>I’m all for renaming stuff but some ideas should remain just that…ideas!
Now the concept of renaming institutions after own heroes is noble, some institutions’ history must also be preserved, else how do we know where we are going, if we don’t know where we are coming from, but the list (below) just doesn’t end there, some of the proposed names are also puzzling.
Oriel Boys is set to be renamed Highlands Boys and Oriel girls, you guessed it HighlandsGirls, what is really the purpose of this, if I may ask?
In all high-density suburbs where schools normally have the same name the only difference being the digit at the end, for example, Kuwadzana No 1, only the ones with a will retain the previous names without the digit, the rest will be renamed.
Let’s also look at the costs involved with this idea, both to the schools and the community.
Imagine the prestigious Prince Edward, which over the years has received perks based on its name will have to settle for ‘Murenga Boys’
An easier option would be to build new schools and give them names, don’t you think, what do you make of this name change?

]]>According to Mangwana 3 Zimbabwean engineers have been in Japan for over 2 years working at the Japanese Space Agency and the president ED Mnangagwa has promised to give all the required support to make this a success.
The perm sec unprovoked tweeted that the first satellite will be called ZIMSAT-1, and it is currently being manufactured by Zimbabwean engineers and it is currently at an advanced stage.
This undertaking is being carried out by Zimbabwe’s equivalent of NASA called Zimbabwe National Geospacial Space Agency (ZINGSA)
Flight readiness and review is scheduled to be done in December 2021, with the final launch expected for February 2022 in Japan.
https://twitter.com/nickmangwana/status/1437385190159093760?s=20
If the nations manages to launch it join a very short list of African countires that have a number of satellites already in orbit, Egypt leads the way with nine launched satellites, followed by South Africa with eight, Algeria with seven, Nigeria with six, and Morocco with three
At his stage we are not aware of the purpose of the satellite, hopefully it is not for spying purposes.

]]>The Zimbabwe football squad under the Croatian, Zdravko Logarusic is showing no signs of improvement even with big names like Marshall Munetsi, Khama Billiat and prolific striker Knowledge Musona, granted we were missing Marvelous Nakamba.
With the introduction of Benjani Mwaruwari as Assistant Coach, fans were expectant of some improvement but nothing has changed, although in all fairness ‘Loga’ has the last say.
Despite ZIFA offering a US$64 000 winning bonus for the Warriors we still succumbed to the perceived weakest link in the Group G, Ethiopia.

Zimbabwe is currently siting at the bottom of the table in Group G, which is widely regarded as an easy group. Zimbabwe is now expected to face Ghana which is no push-over.
The big question is, is Zdravko Logarusic the right man for the job?
In the past 14 games, he has only managed 1 Win, 8 Draws and 5 Defeats, and just to put it into perspective Egypt has sacked their coach Hossam El Badry for drawing to Gabon, he has 5 wins and 4 draws in his past 9 matches.
Following the loss to Ethiopia in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers Loga didn’t even take responsibility but he rather apportioned the blame to the referees and the players, sounds like Arsenal’s coach Mikel Arteta and look where they are.
In my opinion ZIFA has no choice but to sack Loga before it gets worse, what do you think?

]]>The government gazetted fines of ZWL$2000 to any individual caught using the pirate taxis, but this has led to serious transport challenges especially on Friday 3 September which saw the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) failing to meet the demand and leaving thousands of Harare residents stranded.
The government has since promised to import more buses to bring relief to commuters, whilst ZUPCO has partnered the National Railways of Zimbabwe to re-introduce the commuter train AKA ‘Freedom Train’ to service the suburbs that are located closer to train tracks and some of these include Tynwald, Warren Park, Kambuzuma and Lochinvar.
The service is expected to start on the 7th of September 2021.
See flyer below for times.
Whether this development will provide a lasting solution, that is left to be seen, the freedom Train has been brought to ease the transport burden but most times it gets discontinued without notice.
What do you make of this, will this be able to stop the transport woes?
