This year was supposedly difficult for examination candidates. They had to deal with a lengthy period of not going to school due to the pandemic. For those who did resume lessons early, they had to deal with the shift from the classroom environment to online lessons at home.
Despite our concerns and worries for the exam candidates, apparently the year was a walk through for some of them. Students performed well for both Zimsec and Cambridge examinations. For the international examinations board, Cambridge examinations, Zimbabwe even managed to produce 4 best in the world students.
The subjects that Zimbabwe had best in the world students were :
- Design and Technology – Saint Georges
- Accounting – Saint Georges
- Physics – St Johns
- Art and Design – St Johns
Zimbabwe certainly has very intelligent people. In addition to these great results from Cambridge, Zimsec also has wiz-kids of its own to showcase. For instance, when O-Level results were released, student Tadiwanashe Mavetera was as surprised as we were with his results. The Ruya Adventist High School wiz kid scored 20As. Yes, he wrote 20 subjects! Yes, he had As in all 20 subjects! You didn’t read that wrong.
We are grateful for supportive parents who go to whatever lengths to make sure their children have all they need to achieve greatness. A common measure they take is extra lessons. However, we hope the ban on extra lesson will not affect children’s performances in school. You can read about it here.
