]]>As shown in the video, a driver hit a child at the traffic lights Corner Borrowdale Road and Harare Drive. This driver had the audacity to speed on without stopping. Fortunately they were caught in action on CCTV camera.
The driver, who has been identified as Herbert Chakanyuka appeared before Harare Magistrate Tendai Muchini. Following his guilty plea to negligent driving and failure to stop at the accident scene he was given a fine of $15 000. The $15 000 was split as follows; $5 000 for failing to stop at the scene and $10 000 for negligent driving.
This arrest was not the first that took place following the collective effort of sharing the related video on social media until it grabs the attention of the relevant authorities. Last week alone two robbers who had tormented the Ruwa, Damofalls area were caught after a video in which they were caught red-handed went viral on social media.

Zimbabweans currently have faith that if the video goes viral the driver will be caught and dealt with accordingly. These high hopes were ignited by the arrest of four touts who were caught in a viral video harassing a woman at a bus terminal in Beitbridge. The Zimbabwe Republic Police revealed that it was the public that had helped them identify and catch these touts as a result of the circulation of the related video.
If this video reaches the same level of virality it will be highly expected to reach the Police and have the offending driver of the hit and run vehicle captured.
