A Twitter user named @mapisarema21 tweeted that Priest Taguta had 1500 wives who are now widows. Although it is hard to validate this statement it is common knowledge that leaders and men in the apostolic sect favour the concept of marrying many wives. They have also been in the firing line for marrying underaged girls for wives, especially after the death of Memory Machaya a 14-year-old girl who died whilst giving birth at one of the shrines.
In an article called “In defence of Apostles Church” by Mushwatu, a member and activist of the Apostles Church, he talks about how Priest Taguta’s leadership was
“fraught with accusations of excesses where it is alleged he (Priest Noah Taguta) has married over 100 wives, some taken underage. Investigations into these matters have not been made public – as the Church has been sold for 30 pieces of silver.”
Mushwatu laments over how the Apostolic sector has changed and how it has veered from the principles that were set out by its founder Muchabaya Momberume who adopted his maternal surname and was later known as Johanne Marange. He also claims that political leaders see a cheap audience in gathered Apostles and Priest Taguta took advantage of that. Read the full article by Apostle Mushwatu here.

]]>The post #tbt: What Happened To The Pastor Omotoso Rape Cases? appeared first on Provoker Magazine.
]]>People all over the world were at the edges of their seats when Pastor Timothy Omotoso first went to trial back in 2018. The case however, did not keep the momentum it started with. As with many cases, dates were constantly pushed further and the hype around it simmered down.
Whats the 411?
Timothy Oluseun Omotoso born 14 July 1958 is the senior pastor of a Jesus Dominion International, based in Durban, South Africa . He is currently in jail and on trial at the Port Elizabeth high court for rape and human trafficking. He is alleged to have groomed his victims and began molesting them from the age of 14.
Many young women from Omotoso’s church testified about how they were raped repeatedly by the pastor during church trips and other activities. One of these brave women was Cheryl Zondi (now 23 years old). Cheryl took the stand on live TV and described her ordeal.
After a few years of very little progress on the case, there has been a few videos shared on the SABC Youtube page. Basically defense lawyer Peter Daubermann claims that the witness statements are not credible due to some “inconsistencies” and he is moved for a mistrial. In other words he is trying his best to save his client despite the fact that he and his two co-accused, Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho, face 97 charges, including rape, human trafficking and racketeering.
Are the delays justified?
It’s worrying how cases are handled when it comes to celebrities and prominent figures/organizations in general. In Zimbabwe we have the case of Memory Machaya. On one end we have evidence of victims and testimonies to back them up. But for some reason the perpetrators get away with certain acts based on some loop holes in the system or “inconsistencies”.
Sometimes the society even starts to point fingers at the victims. In Omotoso’s case some people questioned why the parents of the under aged girls allowed them to go to church trips and crusades. In the case of R Kelly people also questioned the parents that allowed their children to record with him without supervision. In the case of Memory Machaya people questioned why her parents allowed her to marry at her young age.
The points may be valid. But the main focus at the end of the day is these perpetrators should not be doing these things in the first place. Regardless of the age of the victim. And when they do, if the issue is publicized at the beginning of the trials, why then do they conclude in silence and only then share the resolve/sentence?

]]>The issue of child marriages was given much attention this month. This follows after the unfortunate death of a 14 year old girl while in labour. We came to know her as Memory Machaya.
When much pressure from our society finally lead the police to investigate and arrested the paedophile husband, some more unbelievably news has surfaced.
It is now said that Memory Machaya is alive, however the 14 year old girl was called Anna Machaya. Anna and Memory were cousins.
So you might wonder what’s the deal with the name swap? Well, the real Memory Machaya is a 22 year old and swapping the names was meant to cover up that it was indeed an underage girl who had died while in labour.
Some have started to call out that Anna’s parents, who are said to have arranged this decoy plan, are to be arrested for obstruction of justice.

]]>One would think that this would be a lesson to parents who advocate for child marriages. Unfortunately, so far it seems as though even Memory’s parents might not have learnt a lesson.
According to a report by the Manica Post, the parent of the deceased 14 year old are said to be planning to give Memory’s little sister who is 9 years old to Evans Momberume. Evans was the husband of Memory and the alleged father of the child she was giving birth to when she died.
This replacement process is said to be done in accordance with the chigaramapfihwa tradition. This tradition is when a husband who has lost his wife is given another to replace her from the wife’s family.
Meanwhile, various groups are still calling upon the relevant authorities to arrest Momberume for impregnating a minor and the church leaders for Memory’s death.
The ZRP issued out an official statement underlying the action that they will take in relation to Memory’s case.
