National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed and said investigations were in progress.

“The ZRP is investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year- old woman whose body was found lying in a maize field in Get Bucks area, Waterfalls with some bruises on the knees and a cut on the nose. A Huawei cell-phone and a plastic bag containing $210 and US$1 cash were found on the scene,” he said.

This comes barely a week after a 31-year-old woman was shot during an armed robbery in Waterfalls. The woman was trying to defend an older woman when the armed robber shot her in the head. Only US$60 and cellphones were stolen. Recently a Murehwa man killed his daughter to avoid paying maintenance worth US$30.

There have been reports that seven people lost over US$17 000 cash, cars and property worth over US$9 000 and R248 000 to armed robbers who ambushed them in separate incidents countrywide.

These incidents include; a house robbery in Chitungwiza which involved 2 men armed with a black pistol and iron bar, a car robbery in Norton, a car robbery on the Masvingo-Beitbridge road, a mushikashika robbery along Chiremba Rd in Harare.

This is a lot of crime in one week considering these are just the cases that made it on the news. A concerning element is the increasing use of guns. When Prophet Magaya’s house was searched, other houses were searched and a man named Ashref Kara was arrested for being in possession of four guns in Avondale West.

The criminal activity in Zimbabwe is really concerning. Could it be the bad economic situation? Surely we would have experienced the same in 2008? There is also a rise in drug abuse and everyone knows where there are drugs there is also terrible criminal activity.

The ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police) have revealed why they raided Prophet Walter Magaya’s house. Clarity comes after they raided two more houses in Harare following information on alleged reports of unlicensed guns being kept at the premises.

The police conducted the raids after obtaining warrants of search and seizure. One suspect has since been arrested in Avondale West identified as Ashref Kara. Ashref was found in possession of four guns and several rounds of ammunition. True facts, it’s not a movie!

No arrests or recoveries were recorded on the other two premises in Mt Pleasant belonging to PHD Ministries leader Prophet Magaya, and in Sandton, where they also raided.

So why raid the Prophet’s house? The police were looking for a man called Frank Mudimu, who is believed to have supplied the wrong address to the police. This is according to a search warrant seen by The Herald.

In an interview, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that acting on credible information and ongoing investigations on suspicious criminal movements, the police obtained warrants of search and seizure leading to raids at three premises in Harare today.

As a result, one suspect, Ashref Kara of number 66 Argyle Road, Avondale West, Harare, has been arrested for possession of unlicenced firearms and ammunition,” he said.

Ashref Kara is facing charges of contravening the provisions of the Firearms Act, Chapter 10:09.

“The police also conducted raids at number 18 Cuba Road, Mt Pleasant and 261 Phase 1, Sandton, Goodhope in Harare. These raids were not targeting specific individuals or personalities but criminal activities based on information given to the police.

The police takes this opportunity to thank the public for cooperating and continuous supply of information on possible criminal acts in the country,” Assistant Commisioner Nyathi said.

When contacted for comment, PHD Ministries chief spokesperson and senior overseer, Mr Admire Mango, confirmed the developments saying from information he had gathered the police were looking for one Mudimu, and not Prophet Magaya. Mudimu is believed to be in possession of unlicensed firearms

It’s been a long week for Prophet Magaya. From flying to Kenya for a mega crusade to having your house raided by the police. The PHD Ministries leader has been at the centre of controversial stories for years and each story is nothing short of an action-packed movie.

According to the Herald, the prophet’s Mt Pleasant house was raided for alleged criminal investigations. National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development but couldn’t disclose any more information concerning the investigations.

“This is in relation to ongoing criminal investigations being conducted by the police and we will release details soon,” he said.

Recently Walter Magaya was in Kenya for a mega crusade and he spoke about Aguma (a drug he discovered and claimed could cure HIV) in an interview at JKIA. The drug has gotten the prophet in a lot of trouble in the past as he had to attend court sessions and pay a fine for the claims he made about its healing capabilities. Could there be a relation between the drug and the police raid?

On Monday 10 May 2021, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) brought and drug mule to a halt and managed to arrest her. The drug mule in question was a female transporting $7 million worth of cocaine. She is said to have had some of the substance stashed in her undergarments and believed to have ingested the rest of it.

The cocaine found on her weighed up to one kilogram. Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a statement with regards to this incident saying that the police currently have the female foreign under strong surveillance. He said the following:

The video got to the Zimbabwe Republic Police who were similarly disapproving of the harassment shown in the video quickly to action. On March 30 2021 the Zimbabwe Republic Police took to their twitter page to announce the arrest of the young men in the video.

They also expressed their deep gratitude to the cooperation of Zimbabweans and their concern over the misconduct displayed by the touts.

Generally, citizens expressed their thanks for the action taken by the police. However, some were quick to point out that action seems to have been taken just because the harassment was captured on video. They relayed incidences were similar occurrences took place right in the presence of policemen who took absolutely no action. They summed some the police to be victims of the court of public opinion.

A CID homicide team was at the school yesterday to investigate this violent crime. They found that the robbers had managed to escape with US$250k from the school safe. Although the school had guards on the premises at the time of the robbery, it is said that the armed robbers were able to attack the guard before heading to the safe.

Describing this event, the the chairperson of the school’s board of trustees had the following to say:

“It is with great distress and concern that we inform you of an armed robbery that took place at Gateway High School on Saturday 27 March 2021. At midnight, a gang of eight robbers entered the school premises and blew up the strong room in the administration centre using dynamite.

Though no one was injured, there was money stolen. Police and CID have been engaged and investigations are currently proceeding. We do have night guards and we work through a security firm, and all of this will be part of the investigations”

Following the investigations, the National spokesperson for police, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi shared a few sentiments regarding this crime. He had the following to say:

“The ZRP confirms that investigations are in progress in connection with the armed robbery case which occurred at Gateway High School, Harare, on March 28, 2021 when eight suspects pounced on a guard and blasted an office safe and went away with US$250 000. We are confident the robbers will be arrested”

Armed robberies are on the increase in Zimbabwe and this goes to show that perhaps safes are no longer a safe place to keep large sums of money within the premises. Perhaps it also highlights a need for stronger security systems or an alternative method of safe keeping large amounts of money.

Although vaccination is still voluntary in this country, some fear that they might need to present evidence that they were vaccinated at their employment places or for travel purposes, among other reasons.

As a result of these fears, some feel as though they might need to provide the evidence some time in the very near future so they go ahead and purchase fake vaccination cards in the meantime.

Others are against the notion of being vaccinated but because of fear that they might need evidence of vaccination to keep their jobs, they go ahead and purchase the cards.

The aforementioned reporter went ahead and posed a s a cross boarder needing a vaccination card as soon as possible. He reached out to an agent who finds clients on behalf of the clinic workers and they agreed to met on Wednesday 24 March at the corner of New Chitungwiza and Tilco Roads.

It was there that the reporter paid usd$25 to the woman who handed him the vaccination cards and asked him to fill in his own information. The card is said to have indicated that the reporter had received his first jab of the covid19 vaccine on February 25, 2021 and the second on March 24 2021.

The reporter in question has yet to receive this vaccination.

Chitungwiza’s Director of Health and Environmental Services, Municipality Dr Tonderai Kasu has stated that he is yet to receive reports of any such cases. However he ascertained that council does not tolerate corrupt officials.

Regarding the matter, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the national police spokesperson had this to say on these illegal practices:

“People should come and report so that the law can take its course. Some people are definitely taking advantage of this Covid19. Those people should be brought to book”

Prosper Chinagwe is said to have visited their Highfield home seeking spiritual healing from the two prophetesses Elina Rumhangu (36) and Dorothy Mbano(48). The report states that the prophetesses in question used a surgical blade to cut the swelling veins on the man’s leg which resulted in a loss of much blood.

Prosper Chinagwe was then admitted to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital after bleeding profusely. It was in this hospital that he later died.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident last week. H shared the following remarks:

“The ZRP confirms the arrest of two members of the Johani Marange Apostolic Sect in connection with a case of murder which occurred on March 14, 2021 in Highfield, Harare.

The victim, aged 43, visited the suspects at their residence for spiritual healing and was cut with a surgical blade, the swelling veins of his left leg. He bled profusely and lost a lot of blood until the suspects ferried him to Sally Mugabe Hospital where he died upon admission.”

This incident is unfortunately not the first of its sought. In January another so-called prophet, allegedly raped a woman who came to his shrine seeking spiritual help and prayers for her sick child.

In another incident that occurred last year, prophet Justin Moyo (44) is said to have locked all the house doors as he did not want any disturbances during the prayer session. He then proceeded to rape the woman who had come to him for prayers

It is therefore not surprising that, Assistant Commissioner Nyathi strongly encouraged citizens to be extremely cautious when they seek the help of the so-called spiritualists.
