In the age of feminism so many issues that might not have been issues before have arisen. One problem that recently caused alarm was when a woman was dumped by her husband-to-be for not taking his last name. Okay, lets break this issue down.
A Zimbabwean social media influencer called Tete Fadzi has tailored her brand to focus on addressing issues that are pressing in society. She has previously instigated a discussion on why married women cheat. This time around, a distraught female reached out her asking her to ask her audience what they thought of the situation.
The Situation
The anonymous lady in question felt sad when she came across her ex-boyfriend’s traditional wedding/lobola/roora pictures. They had just split up less than 2 months prior. The cause of the break up was said to be that the girl had refused to take the boyfriend’s last name if they got married in order to preserve “her own sense of identity.”
What’s the big deal?
According to the guy, he took this as sign that the girl’s hunger for independence in this way would be problematic to their marriage. As a result he left her and went on to marry someone who would take on his last name 2 months later.
Here is the longer version of the story as told by the girl:

People’s PerspectiveΒ
Feminists
As you might imagine, feminists were quick to pounce on the issue congratulating the girl for dodging a major bullet. Many of them suggested that the ex-boyfriend would have been a very controlling husband and cause her even more problems in the future.

Other Men AndΒ Women
Others were quick to side with the ex-boyfriend stating that the girl would have been a headache of a wife so in their eyes, it was the guy who had dodged a bullet. They brought up that the moment you decide to get married its now a thing for two and the woman ought to meet her husband half way instead of overly pursuing “independence.”
