]]>Nigeria drew 1-1 with Ghana in a crucial qualifier at the Abuja National Stadium ending Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
The calmer Nigerians that did not storm the pitch watched in disbelief as dugouts were ripped from the ground and various items were launched at players from both sides as they tried to race down the tunnel to take refuge in the dressing rooms.
When police arrived on the scene, they began beating the rioters with batons and ultimately used tear gas on the fans to disperse them. That is one mass tantrum!

]]>It is not known as yet if the 25-year-old will be joining the franchise as a replacement for Mark Wood or as a net bowler.
If Muzarabani does come into LSG as a replacement for Wood, it would be the first after 8 years that a Zimbabwean player will feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a contracted cricketer.
The last Zimbabwean to feature in the IPL was Brendan Taylor. He played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and was released ahead of IPL 2015 season. Ray Price (Mumbai Indians) and Tatenda Taibu (Kolkata Knight Riders) are some of the other players from Zimbabwe who have featured in the IPL before.
Prior to Muzarabani Lucknow had set their sights on Taskin Ahmed but the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to give him the NoC (No Objection Certificate) because of the national team’s upcoming assignments.

]]>Rufaro Stadium was red-flagged by the ZIFA First Insurance Board in 2020 as it was no longer fit for use. Refurbishing the sports stadium to international standards is the core reason for the deal between Sakunda and the city council.
The deal also involves the rehabilitation of Belgravia Sports Club and its facilities for use by Dynamos for training purposes. Sakunda is the major sponsor for Dynamos and Highlanders and the deal will benefit DeMbare as the refurbished facility will be their home.
The refurbishments will include;
While this is a very good development, one cannot help but notice that Kudakwashe Tagwirei is really making a lot of financial moves. The commodities trader with extensive interests in the energy sector is the founder and current CEO of Sakunda Holdings Group, which has a controlling grip on critical sectors of the economy, from mining to real estate to agriculture and banking.
Sakunda Holdings has three distinct operating divisions namely Sakunda Energy, Sakunda Trading and Sakunda Logistics. The company also holds a virtual monopoly over fuel distribution in Zimbabwe. The new Rufaro Stadium deal shows that there are no limits and as long as one has money, they can literally do everything.

]]>So far, Kurt has had to pay a £250,000 fine to his club and his cats have been seized by the RSPCA. He could also potentially face four years in jail. There is also a petition online with almost 300,000 signatures which asks ‘the Metropolitan Police and RSPCA carry out an urgent investigation and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous act’
Adidas has since cancelled his contract worth £100,000 a year. At this point a lot of people feel he has had too many penalties on his head and they have taken to twitter to start a #boycottadidas movement. Many other fans have also added he phrase “I stand with Kurt”.
Adidas has sponsored many athletes over the years including footballers like Paul Pogba, Toni Kroos, Leo Messi and Mo Salah. in the USA, Adidas has built much of its name though associating with black superstars. Popular black athletes and entertainers like James Harden, Candace Parker and Kanye West endorse its products. Adidas also has a partnership with Beyonce Knowles.
Although Adidas publicly supports black superstars, some of its black workers spoke out to The New York Times about the unfriendly work environment. Black employees at the company’s North American headquarters in Portland describe a workplace culture that contradicts the brand’s image. Workers described feeling marginalized and sometimes discriminated against.
By boycotting Adidas, people aim to show their disgruntlement with the sportswear manufacturing giant. Although it may seem like Kurt is being penalized for the actions in his video, bigger forces are at play. Racism continues to penetrate through societies despite efforts made to raise awareness and educate the general public. And it is something that Kurt and many other superstars put up with throughout their careers.

]]>Aluvah has fallen on tough times yet again and this time it’s a hotel bill. According to Soccer24, the super fan faces arrest in Cameroon after failing to settle hotel bills in Yaounde. Aluvah is expected to pay about US$700 for the duration of his stay at the Arenah Hotel.
Aluvah expressed that he didn’t have the money and resorted to fleeing from the hotel leaving his belongings behind. Soccer24 also revealed that the warrior fan was not in Cameroon on a CAF ticket. When the Zimbabwe delegation checked out after the game against Guinea, Aluvah chose to stay behind. He later collapsed and had to be hospitalized due to heart issues. Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon Football Federation president) paid Zhakata’s medical bills and he was discharged from the hospital.
This is not the first time Aluvah has fallen on hard times. He once hitch hiked from Cape Town to Cairo Egypt to support the warriors in the AFCON (Africa Cup Of All Nations) 2019. His journey began on 27 May 2019 and he arrived on Wednesday 10 July 2019. He didn’t get to see the warriors play live. The CAF (Confederation of African Football) had to pay for Aluvahs expenses, VVIP ticket and his flight home after the tournament.
In November 2020, Alvin Zhakata was hospitalized at Parirenyatwa Hospital with broken ribs and a collapsed lung after he was assaulted in Chitungwiza. He had a chest drain.
The Warriors number 1 fan seems to be a burden on other people every time he goes all out on his favorite team. We could give an A for effort and enthusiasm but his escapades are at the expense of other people. He wouldn’t be making headlines if he was able to finance himself. After this ordeal with the hotel it could do him some good to stay put and watch the game from home, that is if he finally makes it home.

]]>The warrior’s super-fan has been stuck in Cameroon where he collapsed whilst attending the AFCON 2021 games in support of the warriors.
Warriors No 1 Fan
Alvin Aluvah Zhakata is known for his undying love and support for the warriors. And his passion for the sport has driven him into a series of unfortunate events.
In 2019 Alvin hitch hiked to Cairo Egypt to support the warriors and the journey took him 51 days to complete. He however didn’t manage to watch them play live as they were knocked out before he arrived. Talk about enthusiasm!
Alvin travelled again last year to support the warriors and this time he collapsed after the Morocco-Malawi game. After days of tests Alvin Zhakata twitted that the President of Fecafoot Samuel Eto’o Fils has paid for his hospital bills.
Samuel Eto’o Fils is a Cameroonian football administrator and former player who is the current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation from 11 December 2021.
Is Alvin’s faith misplaced?
One can’t help but ask themselves if the effort is worth the outcome. The warriors came back home in January and left Alvin in a Cameroon hospital. They received US$20 000 each and other allowances despite their poor performance (according to Newsday). Its baffling how their number one fan still had outstanding bills despite the lengths he goes to support the team.

]]>Lady Cheetahs
If you are not aware, the Lady Cheetah’s are Zimbabwe’s very own female rugby team. The team is currently ranked fourth in Africa and competes in the regional tournaments and also international tournaments organized by Rugby Africa and World Rugby.
The girls put on a great performance at the recent 2022 Africa Cup pre-qualifiers tournament which were held in Maseru, Lesotho.
Africa Cup Pre-qualifiers Performance
The Lady Cheetahs gave their all at this tournament in Lesotho and left undefeated with 160 points all in all. They were part of the 5 teams competing to make the Africa Cup and managed to be the only team that didn’t face defeat in any of their matches.
The teams they played and respective scorelines were as follows:
Lesotho 62 – 0
Namibia 39 – 0
Mauritus 20 – 0
The team managed to qualify for the Africa Cup with a game to spare…Well Done Girls!
If the team maintains this performance at the Africa Cup, we’ll be seeing them at the Sevens Rugby World Cup next year. The World Cup will take place on South African soil for the first time.
This is not the first team to fly the flag high internationally this year. Whilst the nation was healing from the AFCON Warriors disappointment, the Zimbabwean female hockey team was also representing the nation, playing on our 1980s Golden Girls level.

]]>Hockey Team Makes The Semifinals
Zimbabwe’s female hockey team has been doing wonders in the ongoing 2022 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON). They have managed to make it to the semifinals for the first time since 1998!
Although they lost the opening pool match against South Africa, the girls managed to beat Uganda 5 – 0 and finally draw 1 -1 with Namibia to qualify them into the semifinals.
Minister Kirsty Coventry recently came under fire for her selection of an “all white” team. It would have been embarrassing if the team had not been doing so well.
Semi final opponents are yet to be decided.
